Good that people are doing something about it, but damn!

(article excerpt) John Eastman, an architect of Donald Trump’s last-ditch bid to subvert the 2020 election on Jan. 6, is about to go on trial — but not in a criminal court. Rather, the attorney is fighting to save his California bar license from authorities who say he repeatedly breached professional ethics — and possibly the law — in his bid to keep a defeated Trump in power. TIL Monty Python and the Holy Grail was a historical documentary! I will need to watch it agian, for educational purposes, of course.

Finally, there is a tail-rhyme burlesque romance called “The Hunting of the Hare,” which contains the brief reference to a killer rabbit (technically a hare). It’s the story of a group of peasants—Wyll of the Gappe, Dave of the Dale, Hob, Sym, and so on—who decide to “course” a hare and end up brawling with each other and their dogs instead. In the end, the wives cart off the dead in wheelbarrows. “There is really not much hunting going on,” Wade wrote. It’s more of a crude, bawdy slapstick comedy, with jokes about incontinence and plenty of pointless violence.

That’s just my jam!

Every word of this made me wanna cry, for several wildly differing reasons (some: in a good way).

Enjoy.
And I mean that.

Full disclosure: longtime fan and follower and intermittent supporter of Dr. Mark Plotkin’s work. His work started out with the blessing and understanding that many medicines unknown to non-indigenous Amazonian cultures are priceless and must be saved along with the indigenous peoples and their knowledge of same.

The Pythons did a lot of actual, proper research about medieval times before and while writing the script. They all had university degrees and knew how to do research. Jones had read English at St Edmund Hall, Oxford but “strayed into history” and developed a lifelong interest in medieval history. Palin had read modern history at Brasenose College, Oxford. Idle had read English Pembroke College, Cambridge.

The idea to write a film about Arthur and the Holy Grail didn’t just pop up, it grew out of a keen interest in and solid knowledge of medieval literature and history. And I bet that’s where the killer bunny came from, there is no way they could have missed that in the source material.

Is it just me or is there a wee bit of an angry fizzog on those moggies…

Edit:  per request @KathyPartdeux

  • fizzog. Colloquial, if dated, :uk: slang for “physiognomy”. The thing between ye lugs.
  • moggie: Like doggie, but feline. :slightly_smiling_face:
