Makes me wonder which quality he finds important in voters. Maybe their whiteness?
So much this. They would rather stack the deck in their favor than try to appeal to a majority of the potential electorate.
White, over 40, property owning, has had a penis on their body their entire life and hasn’t tried to remove it*.
* as defined by Republicans, so non-op trans people are also disenfranchised.
No sweat, they’ve got an answer for that too:
It isn’t even the quiet parts loud, it’s just declaring it all a game and nothing matters.
Then there’s this winner:
My first thought was “I guess I can include a photocopy of my ID?”, but then, not everyone has access to a copier. Then the rest of my brane caught up after re-parsing it, and flagged every alarm bell I know of for privacy concerns (votes are supposed to be anonymous?) and discrimination against the poor, minorities, and others who may not be aware of the rule changes, and essentially screamed “THIS IS JIM CROW ALL OVER AGAIN!!!”
My state electors… what. the everloving. FRIG.
Pffft. Not enough of you are giving credit to these… creatures for breaking cover at last. No more dissembling, no more posturing, they reveal themselves for what they are - not that it was so unclear before, but some candor is nice.
Here’s a quote from the “Guardian”:
It is long past time to admit the blindingly obvious: the Republican party has been hijacked by fascist extremists. It is now a far-right organization in league with neo-Nazis who have made it painfully clear they want to overthrow democracy and seize power, using violence if necessary. (R.Wolffe)
Did someone invoke “The Lord of the rings”? Give me orcs anyday, they are much cuter.
“But the trains ran on time!”.
I hope this strategy backfires on them. One way these neo-Jim Crows are writing their obscene legislation is to question their documentation, because it’s often difficult for poor people to take time off work or travel to a place to get an ID card. They operate under the assumption that it’s primarily non-white, non-Republican people that are poor. The thing is, a lot of their pandering is to poor, rural, white racists. People who don’t live near a licensing center. People who are so paranoid that they don’t want a “Real ID” because the “cards got chips that are gonna track you.” And lots of felons very fine people.
I don’t want any of these laws to pass. But if they do, I hope they disenfranchise more of their shitty base of fascists than of every other group.
So elections have handicaps now?
There’s a great G.K. Chesterton quotation from The Man Who Was Thursday:
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn’t; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all.
not even, right?
mussolini took credit for the railway fixes he had nothing to do with, the trains ultimately didn’t run on time, and then the war broke everything anyway.
it’s the equivalent of trump saying “i did a great job with the economy”
- he was riding on the coat tails of the obama recovery
- the stock market started faltering before covid as his tax cut sugar rush burnt out and we were probably going to enter a recession anyway
- him fighting against a sensible covid response brought us the worst job market of the modern era
the way a lot of the laws are written is that id is only necessary if the ballot is challenged by a poll worker. if white voters don’t have their ballots challenged, the legitimacy or even existence of the id doesn’t matter.
small rural counties know this stuff, and they aren’t going to be asking for the bundy’s ids ( or whomever ) if those guys want to vote
when does this kind of bullshit start back-firing on them?
‘Tax you pay at the polls’ = poll tax? As has been deemed illegal?

He didn’t really say that.
Oh, I don’t know about that. Some are just awful and totally self-serving people is all, and would support absolutely anything, anything at all, that leads to their own perceived self-benefit. Some are even psychopaths who take joy in doing harm to others.
No, because at the end of the day, CNN, MSNBC, and pretty much the entirety of the mainstream media are not actually liberal or progressive organizations by any means, and do not really work toward any kind of overall positive change in society.
They may be more truthy than fauxnews and Breitbart, but the “acceptable parameters of debate” are still very narrow in the mainstream, especially when it comes to fundamental issues of economics and democracy.
Those two Senate seats the Dems won in GA? Yes lots of hard work was put in to bring out the vote at the grass roots level, but I think what fundamentally got people out is the recognition that the GOP has simply become a party representing racism and fascism.
Ah, but how much land? Votes per acre, presumably since it’s the land that has voting rights.
Missing sarc font.
I’m sure that according to this guy, some votes should only be worth 3/5ths of other votes…
Scoring some votes as only counting as 3/5 ?
UPDATE: Too slow.
