I was including the polytheisms; there’s plenty of bastardry in most pantheons. Mass slaughter, rape and child murderers all over the place; even the supposedly “good” gods tend to indulge in the occasional burst of power-crazed sadism. The Greek and Roman gods are notorious for it, but they’re not alone.
Taoist writings are fairly low-bastardry, but they’re also largely lacking in anthropomorphic divinities.
There are many traditions with beloved gods. Ganesha seems pretty damn chill. Many other indigenous cultures have highly beloved, wonderful gods and other entities.
So the Congressman dies and ends up outside the Pearly Gates and St Peter won’t let him in for crimes against the planet. He appeals for a judgement from God and after a while he gets his wish.
“If you wanted to save us from Climate Change why didn’t you fix if?” complains the Congressman.
“What do you mean? I sent you all those scientists to sort it out!”
