Green Party's Jill Stein launches 2024 presidential bid

I still don’t blame Ralph for that.
More likely these assholes-

(And Jill ‘Komrade’ Stein can fuck right off.)

I mean, it doesn’t have to be, but we don’t have serious 3rd parties in the US. We have vanity parties that seem to run presidential campaigns only. None of that working up the ladder from the local gov to state gov to the house and senate. That would be hard and you’d be invited to barely any talk shows at all.

I mean, there were a lot of shenanigans in Florida 2000. But the final vote difference was just 500 votes, and over 97000 people voted for Nader, so, yes, that had a pretty huge effect.

Even if 3/4 of Nader voters would otherwise have stayed home, and even if the rest only split 60/40 for Gore (which is very unlikely), that would still have been more than enough to seal it.

Of course, that was back when lots of idiots thought “BOtH pArTiEs arE tHe SAME!” I’m so glad we’re passed that stage now. Right? Right…?

But because of the way elections work in the US, even if we did have a serious attempt at an alternative to Dems/Repubs, that wouldn’t result in a competitive three party race for more than a cycle or two, after which the new party will replace one of the existing parties, or it won’t. The US system will always reach equilibrium in a stable, two-party situation. And then we’d be back to complaining that there are no alternatives to the status quo. There’s no way around it, without widespread ranked-choice voting.

What progressives who are dissatisfied need to do is join the Democrat Party, get Biden elected (because the alternative is too dreadful to contemplate) and work from the inside to move the party leftwards. It already is anyway. Biden’s initiatives on green energy and Amtrak are clearly a type of New Deal. Also you’ve got up and coming young guns like Ocasio-Cortes who are going to mature into powerful, capable left-wing operators.

The Republican Party got moved rightwards by the same method, Reagan, the Tea Party, and so on. Plus lots of money from rich people.

Changes like this do not happen overnight.

The puppet masters at the GQP are so good at controlling the gullible. Stein has absolutely no idea that she’s doing exactly what they want her to do. And now Manchin is going to do the same, as the candidate for the “No Labels” party, which is 1000% a front group for the Republican Party. A vote for either of them is a vote for Trump, and this is too serious to fuck around with. If Trump is elected, he will find a way to have himself declared “President for Life”, as he has stated many times he admires China for having as a position. Under his Reich-Wing Fascist Dictatorship, Women, Minorities, and anyone who is not a Christian in exactly the way that they want you to be would be third class citizens, and Trump has already said that he will have whoever he declares to be his enemies rounded up and prosecuted for treason against HIM. Not against the country, against HIM. Try to stop anyone you know from throwing their vote against fascism away.

Though she barely cracked 1% in 2016

That was a pretty critical 1% though.

Yes, Trump lovers are not going to change their vote no matter what happens. And while there are far too many of them for comfort, there are not enough of them to elect him without the aid of party loyalists and people for whom he is not their first choice.

ISTR there were enough straight up Communist Party votes to swing the Florida vote in 2000.
