When my younger cat gets really into being on your lap having her fur rubbed she eventually rolls over and insists on her belly being rubbed (she’ll grab your hand back if you make to move it away). Eventually she’ll end up drooling with her tongue hanging out.
and she might then get so relaxed she’ll fall off.
I suspect the veterinarian actually pulls their tongue out to make sure they don’t choke on it while unconscious
No. I’m just the voyeuristic type.
You are correct.
I often worked post-op/recovery in spay/neuter clinic for feral cats. We had to do last minute vax, anti-parasite treatments, “microchipping” and other procedures before the patient comes out of anesthetic. The excitement was waiting for the patient recover enough to lift its head and then get it back into its “Have-a-Heart” trap before it is awake enough to fly off the table and run around the room.
I remember reading one of those youth books with an animal as a protagonist. In this case a bear. The ending was traumatic - he was sedated for study by some researchers and when he had woken up but still hadn’t recovered properly he was attacked and killed by a rival bear.
