Gun-toting mom shot in the back by her 4-year-old may go to jail for 180 days

And this is also why I have to go through annoyance and added expense when I want to buy 30% peroxide for my etching. And why the electronics fails on brittle cracks because of RoHS. And I could continue ad infinitum.

You have to fight for every slice of the salami. By making it harder to cut the farther ones you don’t that much care for, you keep the knife from coming to your ones.

Get rid of guns and soon you’ll get in trouble for a lockable-blade multitool.

The do-gooders don’t know when to stop.

Which doesn’t have much impact on people’s immediate behavior.

It costs you more to be an idiot WITHOUT an insurance, too.

In case of schlong, it is called “gigolo”.

But what about, say, a kidney? Selling those keeps happening. What about blood? Or bone marrow?

Is the ‘obviously Floridan’ crack about her lifestyle, her rather asymmetric face, or both?

At this point you are justifying why I cancelled my NRA membership years ago.

They no longer speak for sane and responsible gun owners. They just want to pander to the people who make fools of sane and responsible gun owners.

Thanks for making it easier for people to attack 2nd Amendment rights.

What about the property question? What about the kidney selling? Are my organs my property? What about attachments that are directly bonded to the body? Said chip implant (possible smart-gun extension)? A prosthetic hand directly bonded to the bone stump - with a built-in gun, to make the question more interesting and on topic? Where is the line?

You have to physically remove all of it before it becomes property. Try selling a kidney still attached to you. When you can put your schlong in hock or people can repo it, get back to me. :grinning:

I still see it as a rather arbitrary artificial distinction with more fog than steam-age London.

Besides, you can sell the kidney and only after the monetary transaction do the physical transaction. Technically, when you get paid, it is not yours anymore even if it is still attached.

Its pretty bright line. Attached, part of you. Not attached, property. Property has to be able to change hands.

Now if you are this guy, exceptions are made

Even a person can be a property in certain cases. It’s frowned upon here but it still can happen.

The only kind of slavery I support is being a slave to love

Wait - I thought gun control was cake, not salami…

That’s a GOOD one.

Love is a four-letter word.
The older I am, the more I think arranged marriages were a good idea…

It was the result of a stupid error in judgement regarding the place she put the gun in the car… she already paid the appropriate cost as a natural result of her mistake. She probably learned her lesson. What exactly is spending time in jail going to do; prove to her that the Justice system in the US is anything but?

These things will happen, regardless, punishing people for their mistakes does not solve problems.

I haven’t asked nature why it evolved penises but I’m guessing they evolved for the purpose of procreation. Penises only seem to kill people when men in a position of authority think with theirs. Rape isn’t accidental and penis owners don’t likely rape themselves with their own penis (unless you have some twisted view of masturbation). Men are born with penises usually and while it may seem like some parents give children guns at birth based on some of the family Xmas photos I’ve seen, I don’t believe anyone is actually born with a gun in their hand. Not at all rapes are performed by men or with the use of a penis, so singling out penises seems ignorant.

Can you show me where in the manual for the industrial machine that it shows you the steps on how to kill another human being? Can you show me the advertisement at an industrial machine trade show where the machine is touted for its ability to kill human beings?

That depends. Are the lasers designed to kill human beings, used irresponsibly by a significant number of people (regardless of what percentage of the total population of laser users they make up), useless for very little else besides killing humans, killing animals, or practicing shooting something, and fiercely defended by a wealthy corporate lobby that prefers profits to accountability for the killing devices that they manufacture?

Ugh.

With gun ownership comes the requirement to be responsible with gun ownership.

I see a great many irresponsible gun owners… fucking it up for everyone. No where in the constitution did they say… ignorant idjits get guns. So they can wave them around and feel powerful, and make gun ownership a part of their stupid identity.

You have the right to bear arms, as a well organized militia. Its to protect yourself from other people. From oppressive leaders and governments, and from foreign invaders. Many reasons to have them… maybe the most important one being… the British didn’t let citizens have guns. And why they didn’t.

But in no case does a well organized militia doesn’t keep a firearm in a bag, where it can slide into the hands of a four year old in the back seat.

She made a bajillion mistakes! And put her kid in danger! Luckily she was the only one who got shot. But everyone is traumatized from that one…

I think everyone can agree that irresponsible gun ownership is a HUGE problem. Even if we can’t agree there is such a thing as responsible gun ownership or not. I don’t think anyone looks at this and says… well I don’t see the problem here.

Given my past history, I’m probably gonna need something just a wee bit stronger than tea…

Please do yourself a favor and get at least Black Label. Red Label is for mixing with coke or whatever.

Or live it up and get some Gold Label or like a 15 year single malt.

Actually, drinking isn’t at all my vice of choice; but I love that gif and thought it would make for a funny retort.

Having tended a few times bar in my “long illustrious” employment history, I can totally agree with you there.

JW Red was our ‘well’ whiskey at the pub where I worked.

You’re hitting on a fundamental flaw in the whole birth-nation-lottery in general.

We’re not in a civilized society, we’re in a lowest common denominator rule system that obviously brings out the worst in us in many ways.

If only people who were committed to the idea of behaving like civilized adults had access to the freedoms that required responsible behavior then it wouldn’t just be our firearm problem that ceases to be a major issue

(and despite what some mexicant’s say, ‘civility’ isn’t some weird moving target that only philosophers understand, it’s the opposite and it’s very manageable in practice)
