(At least it wasn’t actually a critical miss … took me a second to realize that’s against the skill, not the parry!)
May as well press the attack, yes.
@discbot roll 3d6 vs Sweep 13

@discbot roll 3d6 vs Sweep 13
@awfulhorrid the 3d6 dice reads: 12 vs Sweep 13 (3,6,3)
(Just explained the history of the fight to my partner, who’s also a GURPS player. She did have to ask if either of us are using a “buck and a quarters staff.”)
@Wanderfound the 3d6 dice reads: 9 vs staff-16 (2,6,1)
Retreating parry - Step is directly away from your front hex, with a facing change towards you.
Parry 13 Retreat +1 Defensive grip +1 = 15
@discbot roll 3d6 vs Parry 15
@awfulhorrid the 3d6 dice reads: 6 vs Parry 15 (1,2,3)
Whoops, just found the rule for my critical miss on the Sweep parry:
So, @discbot roll 3d6 for the fumble
@Wanderfound the 3d6 dice reads: 13 for the fumble (5,2,6)
13 on the fumble table is “You lose your balance. You can do nothing else (not even a free action) until your next turn, and all your active defenses are at -2 until then.”.
All that does is impair my defence between the parry and the start of my turn. No change to what happened.
Ah, OK. I just though I was mis-remembering that and the critical was based off of underlying weapons skill and not parry, but I see that it does say “effective skill.” (That’s actually one of the reasons I wanted to get in on this – it’s really bringing back the rules!)
Alright then … as much as I’d like to try for another skull shot, I don’t think I want to try that without some bonuses to hit. I’ll try a swing attack to the right hand (-4). (16 - 4 = 12)
@discbot roll 3d6 for attack 12
@awfulhorrid the 3d6 dice reads: 12 for attack 12 (1,6,5)
@Wanderfound the 3d6 dice reads: 10 vs parry-14 (1,4,5)
Yes, step to follow retreat.
Who’s leading this dance, anyway?
@Wanderfound the 3d6 dice reads: 9 vs Staff-16 (2,6,1)
Parry, no retreat this time … Parry 13 (+1 for Def. Grip) = 14
@discbot roll 3d6 for Parry 14
@awfulhorrid the 3d6 dice reads: 15 for Parry 14 (5,4,6)
