Ha! Erie Mayor thinks he can get Trump — who stiffed him in 2018 — to pay in advance this time, ahead of rally

Yeah, and I suppose it also overlaps, to some degree, with ‘being an official in public,’ too - the president and VP, etc. not being able to go anywhere without incurring costs to local governments. Having to pay money just to be a political speaker (or just political figure) in public is highly problematic…

Apparently one of the politicians who does consistently pay these costs is Ted Cruz. Need one say more?

I’m skeptical of that intel. Some cities accrue hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses when a major candidate comes to town. The candidates have campaign budgets to pay for it.

Protesters don’t need permits. They’re exercising direct speech. Candidates are holding events. If they just showed up and started talking in the town square, they are free to do so. But that’s not what a political rally is. Most utilize public resources like a stadium or build a temporary venue, again mostly on public property with support from public resources.

Freedom of speech assures a right to expression, not a platform.

Uh, property lien trade biz? Requiring front payment -and- paper promising people who need to be on the hook for this, on the hook?

The other option is to let him visit and provide zero services to Trump gang. No extra cops, no traffic detail, nada. And ticket any vehicle that violates parking or driving laws.

People use that quote to demonstrate how stupid Bush Jr. was, and he’s obviously not very bright, but in fact it illustrates how sharp his political survival instincts were: as soon as he started to say the first “shame on”, something in his brain was screaming, "DON’T FINISH IT! If you say ‘shame on me,’ it will become a soundbite for the rest of your entire life. He didn’t get out of it gracefully, but he did avoid saying that particular set of words, for all the good it did him.

Instead he got a worse and much more memorable sound clip. Sharp indeed.

I think that’s giving him way too much credit, especially since the dumbass misquote stuck to him way more than the “shame on me” soundbyte would have. That was just another dopey Bush mis-speak like the “working hard to put food on your family” moment.

I was a little dubious about the spelling.

But then, I can talk…

Hmm. Seems to me that if a city is responsible for the traffic control, they could do it in a way that benefits the regular commuters and causes massive delays for those trying to get to and from the trump event.
