Your neighborhood sounds a bit like mine. I’m guessing the houses on the two boulevards in our neighborhood (sorta the main drags) saw a minimum of 300 kids.
So I didn’t make the ladybug costume from scratch. But that parrot worked out well. A drunk neighbor handing out candy didn’t know what to make of it.
Off to collect some loot!
(Ok, technically we didn’t sail our pirate ship from house to house, but only because the sidewalks were choked full of kids. But it was a popular photo-op.)
Some kid left a very nice, homemade-looking Gryffindor scarf in my driveway last night. I’ve hung it on the stoop in the hopes that someone recognizes it.
That poor ladybug/butterfly.
“They made me come…”
I dusted off my ren fair/pirate costume too.
You made a ship - why isn’t the crow in the crow’s nest?
I one year did like 4 pumpkins, 3 of the Homestar Runner themed.
This year I was like - just one.
I had to make my own stencil, and in hind sight I should have joined the neck and cheeks, but I was worried I would make it too weak.
Updated kiddo’s costume. Fixed and added the shoulder pads and made new glasses that are less like the cartoon but easier to wear and see through. They are shop glasses with permanent marker for color.
I got a few better poses too.
“And Steven, I love you.”
I only did one of those - we had a pumpkin carving party. There were actually more but some of them went home with their carvers before I got the shot.
Good ol’ fashioned ketchup. Somehow looked redder and less orange in real life.
You kind of look like the Tiger Lillies
That is a great horror host look!
The original intent was to dress like the Hitchhiking Ghosts, but there wasn’t time. The kids loved interacting with us in character. Lots of conversations like:
Kid: What are you supposed to be?
Me: I don’t understand your question, child. This is how I always look.
Kid: Yeah but what’s your costume?
Me: I’m not wearing a… costume.
Kid: You crazy. Is this house haunted? Does it have ghosts in it?
Me: Not while I’m standing out here.
Kid: You a ghost. That’s so cool.
Only three trick-or-treaters came to my door which is a depressingly small number, but also three more than we’ve had in at least a decade, which is even more depressing.
And in a way probably just as well. This is the candy I put in their bags and if word had gotten out I think our house would have been very popular. And I’d hate to have run out.
OMG! Amazeballs! Congrats on dad of the year!
Ok since I wasn’t expecting to finish the cyber falls I didn’t have a good costume plan to go with them so I ended up just wearing a heavily skeleton themed club outfit.
And then I spent almost an hour on my makeup and somehow forgot to put on mascara. The blush and contour are barely visible but they took forever especially because I kept toning them down.
I lost three acrylic scales from my hair so I need to use different knots on the end when I fix them.
Both necklaces, and the lace trimmed zipper bracelet are also my work.
It looks AMAZING! So very rivet-head-steampunk’d-gothed out!!!
Makes me want to go back out to the goth clubs, which I haven’t done in years! WHERE-O-WHERE DID MUH YOUTH GO???
That’s awesome! I love Black/Purple as a scheme. And skeletons are my favorite monster. There is a certain twinge of irony that its against the most Generic Beige Curtains™.
Makes a great costume for Halloween or a concert/club. I’ve seen similar head gear at KMFDM concerts, which are really about the only sort of clubbing/concert going I managed to get out to.
But anyway two thumbs up.
Show pics of the bracelet, please.
The falls started out experimenting with a pack of Halloween crin on sale at the craft store but I had to order more black and purple on ebay to finish them.
Although now I also have more to make a green or silver pair if I want to order even more. I’m not going to use the orange unless I decide I can make a pair nice enough to sell. I’d like to do a pair with foam eventually but that usually also involves stencils to do patterns on the foam.
Like so many craft projects, now I wish I’d tackled them sooner
The hotel near the club I like is beige, and beige, with extra beige with no room around the sink for all my makeup/hair things. It is a funny place to have to get ready, although it makes it more like con. When we finally get a car we can go a little more often, but will have to leave a little earlier to get all the way back home. Right now going out involves the Cal train and getting a room so, not often.
The bracelet closes with three snaps. I don’t have a machine right now so everything I do is hand stitched. That’s why I don’t sell anything with stitching now although I’d really like to start adding cloth liners to some of my chain mail bags again.
Very cool! I like Bright green and silver too.
And grey and orange.
I thought about trying to make and sell a few Garnet gauntlets, but holy how I don’t think the time vs cost ratio would pay off. Maybe I should experiment and see if I could do it faster… but I doubt it. These things are usually labors of love, not for profit.
