One of the nagging thoughts I have is that we have created a system of pay, training and work requirements that selects for sadism and other pathological leadership behaviors in law enforcement officers. Makes you wonder if empathy is cost sensitive…

Judging by the cost of lawsuit settlements, empathy would be way cheaper, but that doesn’t seem to matter in a society obsessed with punishment and submission to authority.
