DC not on the list?

Oh man, number twelve on a list of twelve, my hometown pride has been deeply wounded.

Especially with Atlanta so much higher. (There is a bit of a rivalry on which town is better for fun, gay fun, and music.)

Edit: oh and Baton Rouge, I can’t even.

Cleveland?

Really?

Is it because of that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame thingy?

Or just because “it’s a sin to even go there”?

What? No Florida city?

Came to ask the same! Can’t even find it on the map. Closest is Columbia, MD.

ETA: I’ll be moving to #21 in the next six to eight months.

yeeeah! being a transportation hub and with the “respectable” population out of the city center since white flight, one of Atlanta’s big industries has been hospitality and conventions, with the subsequent “sin” industries feeding into making visitors happy. two local chains of sex toy and bong shops. huge escort industry. 3am last call. legendary strip club scene, and visited by couples/co-ed groups. I don’t know if they’re still available but there once were at least two 24-hour club licenses. you should’ve seen it 20 years ago when Backstreet (licensed) and Reds (DIY but tolerated by police, including the bar) were still 24 hour party spots. Buckhead was basically Mardi Gras every weekend. Midtown was streetwalkers of every stripe after dark. weed (still illegal nationwide) was openly smoked on the floor at club Kaya and MJQ and on the back porch at Lenny’s, just to name the ones I know about. DIY skate spot in the center of Midtown. Freaknik. seeing children was rarer than one of our teams making the playoffs. it was a very laissez faire vibe.

watch our index plummet now that respectable folks are living downtown and raising families here, though.

Hmmm…is Denver on there because of legal weed and stolen catalytic converters alone? Because this town is pretty dull otherwise…

Looking at their methodology it sure seems like it’s a damn good thing I don’t live in one of the top ten “most sinful” cities-- they use a broad (maybe Biblical) definition of sin, including violent crime, theft, obesity, number sex offenders, etc.

Wichita at number 24, and I see that it’s mostly based on Greed, Lust, Anger & Hatred.

Sounds about right.

The 12 year-old boy in me was thrilled to see my town (Rochester NY) clock in at the very sinful # 69. I was just in a club Saturday and saw an act called Powered by Satan. (The performer is actually LA-based now, so if you get a chance to see PWS, seize it!)

Woohoo, St. Louis at #2!

How is San Francisco so far down the list? I mean, we have Elon Freaking Musk here now, and he’s basically “excess, anger, hatred, jealousy, greed, lust, and vanity” in human form.

I moved out of ATL in 1998 and just reading this comment made me smile with good memories. I still miss Backstreet - was there at least once a month from college until I left.

ETA: This song always captured that vibe for me, and I play it whenever I go back.

If a high ranking on this list keeps the Xtianists from moving into a city and ruining the place, all the better!

really want to know how St. Louis made #2 (bribery is sinful, so maybe that’s it). Reno should be higher on the list, since we regularly make the top 5 drunkest cities in the US.

Yeah, trying to figure out why Denver would be so high (pun intended).

Basically it seems the list can be boiled down to “every major city in America”. The only quibble is the order of rankings.

Well, we know “urban” is code for, so…
