The Red army was supported massively by US intelligence and aid programs. I don’t think there were too many reds in the campaign to push the Germans out of North Africa.
I think the number of soviet casualties might be related to their tactics, which included forcing their men to charge armed strong points until the enemy runs out of ammo. number of casualties does not necessarily translate to effectiveness of tactics or sacrifice.
But I guess that is a topic for another discussion.
