I wonder if these reports of swatting are to distract from the current stories about trans people also getting swatted and doxxed, as well as an attempt to demonise trans people.
I don’t think Empty is involved beyond being the victim, but the affiliation and supposed motivation of the callers, and timing sets alarm bells ringing.

They could, and they should, but KF already has DDoS-Guard as a backup reverse proxy on the .ru version of their domain. But the actual server has to be hosted somewhere, even if it’s behind Cloudflare, a Russian version of Cloudflare, on the dark web (and they do have a Tor node), etc…
Here’s the fun part: They didn’t do a very good job of hiding their real IP range. They have a Git server and a bunch of other stuff in DNS on the kiwifarms dot net domain, and those all resolve directly to IPs on a range owned by “1776 Solutions LLC”, AS number 397702: https://bgp.he.net/AS397702#_whois
That peers only with AS53340, VegasNAP LLC. Over the last few days, AS397702 disappeared from BGP and no one seems to know why. During that time the site was unreachable via Cloudflare and only sporadically reachable via DDoS-Guard. It seems their main hosting went down and the site was running off a backup somewhere else. AS397702 is back up now, but for how long?
EDIT: Whoopsie, seems to have fallen off BGP again! Cloudflare can’t reach the backend, and the .ru domain times out too.
