While that is quite possibly true, I would emphasize (and I say this as a West Virginia native) that painting a pretty large geographic area with that broad a brush is gonna always be in error. Tough to argue, given the support their highly questionable congressional delegation seems to enjoy, but I am certain that there are areas where I would be comfortable in my liberal weirdness.

This reminds me of an all-time favorite scene from “Edge of Tomorrow” where the late, great Bill Paxton chewed the scenery in the best possible way as Master Sergeant Farrell, a proud son of Science Hill.

From May. And this happened in late July. I think at this point (after a CDC draft report of July 30th) cops should be wearing them. The exec summary mentions indoor masking but other statements say if you’re likely to come into close contact with strangers (as cops are) you should also wear them outdoors.

I know it’s potentially problematic. 75% of my DNA comes from Appalachia, 25% of the total via Flatwoods, WV. I have also spent just over half my life (so far) in NC, although entirely in the two regions of the state that are the least Confederate.
I’m definitely not saying (or even trying to imply) that people from those places are less smart, or less capable of science. But fuck yes I am directly stating that I believe a majority people in Kentucky have, on average, less interest in and/or understanding of science. And since I suspect a plurality of those folks would actually cheer such a declaration, I don’t feel too shitty about it.
