House approves $2,000 COVID relief checks demanded by Trump, next goes to GOP-led Senate where fate uncertain

Yeah, Mitch is now disingenuously pretending he wants to pass this legislation. He sent out this ironic tweet:

But the Republicans have realized that it doesn’t matter what they actually do, so long as they say the opposite while they’re doing it. So they can kill the bill while pretending to be for it.

Edit: And yep, he blocked the vote. Reality simply doesn’t matter anymore, at least for Republicans.

Of course they both want it now …

"Sens. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and[Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) on Tuesday threw their support behind a President Trump-backed effort to increase the amount of recently passed stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000.

The endorsement from the two senators — who are sticking closely with President Trump as they fight for their political lives in next week’s Georgia runoff elections — comes after the legislation passed the House on Monday in a 275-134 vote.

“I’m delighted to support the president in this $2,000. … So I fully support what the president is doing right now,” Perdue said during an interview with Fox News on Tuesday.

Perdue, who is in a tight race with Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff in his bid for a second term, added in a tweet that “President @realDonaldTrump is right.”

Loeffler, who was appointed to the Senate and faces her own tight runoff battle against Democratic candidate the Rev. Raphael Warnock, echoed the senior Georgia senator, tweeting “I agree” with Trump. She added in a separate Fox News interview that she supports the push to increase the amount of the direct payment from $600 to $2,000." -TheHill

Because we damn well know that they don’t see this money as relief for millions. They see it as chickens for votes.

I really think that all pretenses of civility and decorum need to be thrown out the window and Mitch McConnell deserves to be descended upon and torn apart, be it verbally or physically, by his fellow members of Congress. He does not deserve his office. He did not deserve the vaccine. He does not deserve anything except a cold dark jail cell and after that, an unmarked grave. I am sick and tired of this “man”, if he can be called as such, making a mockery of our nation, and I am sick and tired of the imaginary rules that we have to play by but they don’t requiring us to act like he is anything but a monster.

Just before Schumer made his motion, McConnell said the Senate will address three of Trump’s complaints: the amount of the stimulus payments, as well as unrelated concerns about election fraud and a law that shields technology companies from liability for user content.

Three Trump-flavored poison pills.

it confuses me how he can be considered an essential worker if all he does is block congress from working. ( and it remains upsetting that republicans in congress are snapping up limited supplies of vaccine after a year of downplaying the virus and disrupting efforts to respond to it. )

No wonder there is a coin shortage!

Yeah well, it’s all Democrats’ fault. Right? Somehow? :rage:

if by “fate uncertain” you mean we don’t know if McConnell will ignore the bill, or McConnell will laugh at the bill, or McConnell will tear-up the bill, then sure - its fate is uncertain.

I admit I haven’t read it (nobody has) but I’d bet there’s a ton of Republican pork in it. How could there not be? it’s perfect.

It appears that there is not, hence the block. He needs to add the requisite amount of antisocial bullshit to get it past his gag reflex. Killing section 230, lots of “election fraud” bullshit, you know, the usual poison pills so that they can blame the Dems for it’s demise.

He’s not done showing us how low he can go.

He’s asking that the (completely unrelated and completely destructive) total repeal of Section 230 be tied to passage of $2000 stimulus relief.

The introduction of this poison pill is nothing more than an act of depraved cruelty (which is, of course, the point for him). In a more just world, this would amount to a landslide for Ossoff and Warnock and the end of Yertle’s obstructionist reign of terror.

This goes for Moscow Mitch, and Lord Dampnut

No.
I want their graves to be well-marked & accessible to the public 24/7.
I also want their graves to be located in the basement of a outhouse, so that they can glean the respect they so richly deserve.

Which gets Trump off his back, and lets him shift blame from the Rubs to the Dems when it doesn’t pass.

Gee you’d think the Dems would have seen that coming.
