House GOP approves bill allowing companies to force genetic testing on workers [See update]

HIPPA schmIPPA I always said. Protecting you from your insurance finding out about medical history that could cause them to drop your coverage or raise your rates?
Hey, if you don’t have anything to hide, you’ve got nothing to fear. We don’t want any of these sick people paying for health insurance, amirite?

I have been on disability for 20 years so I don’t worry about myself on this issue, but on behalf of you and everyone (because some people might have things they themselves don’t know about) I’m scared too. You are an employee, not a slave. Being an employee means you have a contract with your employer that you will provide service x for compensation y, not that you belong to them - or at least that’s what it used to mean. But this isn’t a law yet. It is time to get politically active: call your Representative (if you don’t know who or what his/her # is, look at callmycongress.com to find out) and tell him/her that you want her/him to oppose HR1313 and tell your story as to why. Or tell it to whoever answers, or send an email. Snail-mail letters are not as good: because of the threats they could contain they are delayed until they can be declared safe.

There’s always something weird about seeing an actor you’re currently very familiar with in a movie you’ve seen several times some time ago and failed to make the connection right away. It almost feels like someone edited the movie to insert that actor.

It’s good to see that this Trump nonsense hasn’t distracted the Republican party from their agenda of unmitigated evil.

The good news is that if you were lucky enough to be born with good genes you can now support yourself by selling all those extra skin flakes, blood samples and bags of urine to Ethan Hawke.

I can’t tell you the number of times people have gotten DNA testing done and then state that because the scientific results don’t agree with some family lore, it’s the DNA that’s wrong.

It’s idiocracy all the way down.

This does not make me happy at all.

See the comments upstream about the “voluntary” aspects of “wellness” programmes.

It’s such a waste of money for them too. Huge. I suffer from side effects from pelvic radiation from 20 years previous. Non of my doctors know and understand shit one about radiation fibrous not the chronic pain that comes with it. Still functioning not to be on disability but not enough functioning to be working. And where I live, a big city mind you, I can not find anyone who knows what the future holds for me and how to mitigate the side effects. Needless to say I trot from specialist to specialist to find some out of the box thinking just to be disappointed. Meanwhile they negate my past medical history and pop in a loose weight you’ll feel better blah blah.

I’m on my husbands insurance.

His insurance started calling me non stop, I figured they were advertising. Then the letters started coming in. “We need you to call a nurse to help you with your issues.” I spoke to that nurse and told her my history, which I assumed she would have, she had no idea what to do, no advice, then she would call me for an update every 3 weeks. I called her manager and demanded them to stop the calls. They did.

Now my husband is being contacted to “voluntarily” to submit a health history on me, not him, me. I stand my ground I’m not doing it. I’m worried.

How can my healing or lack thereof be at their will when there is no physician support out there?

Even if there was something wrong with what they are doing, those people are not real Christians. so there’s no reason to suppose that their faith is in any way involved with their decisions and anyway the church isn’t responsible for what the adherents do and anyway these are political actions which have no bearing on the responsibility of the individuals who associate in organised religious entities.

I almost think this is a good thing. When bullshit like this starts making it impossible to get affordable healthcare for not just the lowest income brackets, but starts to impact the middle class as well, maybe we’ll finally see a revolt against the healthcare/insurance oligopoly and we’ll get a sane healthcare system in place.

I almost think this could happen… almost…

Who needs privacy, anyway? I had to get some genetic testing here in Germany and was given the option to have all the samples and evidence of the test completely destroyed once the results were sent to my doctor. There’s not even a record of the type of test they did – as an American think it’s pretty incredible that the only people who know are me and my doctor.

Another thing we learned the hard way … privacy is important. Recording and storing genetic/racial profiles of people is a bad idea and could have unpleasant consequences.

In the US, they are the mainstream Christianity. They just worship a hollowed-out Jesus suit worn by Mammon and timeshared with Lucifer and Beezlebub.

My genetic profile is one of several kinds of information I can imagine wanting my doctor to have access to, just not anyone else.

I’d be more concerned about misuse of actual genetic studies, rather than a hypothetical one.
