Neat.

Get out and vote.

We got our mail-in ballots the day before yesterday. Blue across the board. Mailed out the same day.

“Forget about mobilizing all those non-voters, Biden needs to come across as less principled so as not to alienate the racist misogynist fascists who voted for Trump in 2016!”

He and Harris have repeatedly made clear that they are against a green new deal, and are in fact pro-fracking. As an environmentalist who is extremely concerned with scarcity of clean drinking water in the future, this is really bad! And on top of that, he is against Medicare for All, during a god damned pandemic. If he wanted to win undecided voters, THAT would be the way to set him apart from Republicans.

Seriously, if this election is as important as everyone says, why is he not pulling out all the stops and doing everything he can to be the obvious choice during a national crisis??

You talk about the people he brought into his campaign, but at the top levels there’s nobody who is in line with Bernie’s platform, instead its going to be another wall st focused administration.

For god’s sake he needs to increase Dem turnout, and that means exciting his entire base, not just the rightwing ones. Biden is out there bragging about “Beating the Socialist” even while Sanders is out there campaigning for him across the country. It is so sickening.

It’s true - Biden can’t win.

He’s leading in all the polls by double digits and trouncing in the swing states - but he doesn’t have a clue how to win.

I agree with those saying that national polls don’t matter. They freaking don’t. Better to look at polling in your own state and seeing what you can do to support GOTV efforts locally. Because we don’t have a popular vote.

IMHO, the obsession with national politics is a vicious cycle that will continue to create these kinds of monsters. It’s a waste of energy, time, and money. The way we can get back apathetic voters is showing them that their vote counts in their communities. School boards, county commissioners, city councils. These are what really counts and makes a difference.

Of course national politics are important, but this horse race crap is so destructive.

I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords… anyone but Trump.

Are they perfect candidates? No. Are they better than Trump or any GOP candidate who actively deny climate change and are seeking to roll back ALL environmental regulations? Yes.

If Trump wins, we know that all that we want will not happen. If we vote for Biden, and for progressives when possible, we have a chance to get things moving on these issues in a way we do not with the GOP in charge.

If YOU want things like the Green New Deal and M4All, then YOU need to advocate for them with your congress people and by putting pressure on the white house if Biden wins. But if Biden loses, and the GOP retain control of the senate, we’ll continue down a path where these things are an even more remote possibility.

If you’re waiting for the perfect candidate to come along and fix all this, then you’re waiting in vain. That’s not how democracy works. We advocate for the people we want, but we put pressure on people who are in office, no matter if we voted for them or not. We let them know what we want out of them, even if they are not OUR candidate. Because they represent us.

Agreed. Seeing polls like this can make people complacent. As @KathyPartdeux has been saying, we can’t get complacent here.

And, in what way can pleasing Bernie’s people help him with convincing a wavering unemployed steel worker in Pennsylvania to vote for him? That’s the base you want to turn out.

The I-won’t-vote-if-he-doesnt-come-out-against-fraking vote is too small to worry about in comparison… if they were in it only for Bernie, then hopefully they’ll vote for Biden. But the steel-worker is not going to vote for him unless he seems pro-industry, and if he doesn’t pledge to take the guns away…

Was that you at the VP debate?

I don’t entirely agree with that. We want them both to come out, not one or the other. And Sanders had a solid, pro-worker platform that would have motivated many white, working class people not too long ago. The problem is in part that the GOP for years have been using racial dog whistles to peel off that voters that used to be solid blue. We do need to convince those voters that supporting the rights of people who do not look like them is not destructive to their way of life, as many have become convinced by years of the GOP’s messaging.

But what we really want people who haven’t voted to come out, which is the real way to move the needle. Over half of Americans do not vote, for various reasons (they can’t, for some), but also because so many people are demoralized about the two party system that they see as ineffectual. That includes, actually, a good deal of the white working class in this country. Everyone keeps saying that they are Trump’s base, but they’re not really. His core is the white, small business owning middle and upper class (along with some of the white working class).

Biden and Harris need to have wide appeal, but just talking to the white working class and assuming that the rest of us are safe won’t help in that regard. Yes, talk about the things that matter to that demographic, but don’t pretend like we can bring back jobs that aren’t coming back. Instead, promise to build something better in it’s place and give a road map of how to get there.

The Dem Party Platform is linked below.

It’s hard to see how anyone could say with a straight face that it’s not the most progressive major party platform in US history- and moved further on addressing the environment and green jobs. A public option isn’t Medicare for all - but it’s definitely progress towards national health care rights. Day 1 - rejoin the Paris climate accords.

Your move, Donnie.

I really f’ing hope you’re right and that I’m the dumb idiot you think I am!!

I am being 100% serious, I truly hope that I’m wrong and that it doesn’t matter that Biden is taking the most enthusiastic part of the dem party for granted, and that the Electoral College and SCOTUS won’t hand the election to Trump or Pence.

To be fair- the steel mills closed thirty years ago here. And those guys are retired.

Thanks for posting this!

Hell, the GOP doesn’t even HAVE a platform! They are just the party of hate, intolerance, conspiracy theories, and death now. I suspect that they realize that, too.

People seem to forget change generally comes in small, incremental steps. Rarely sweeping changes. If you want changes, you at least have to have politicians who lean one way or another.

I sure hope you’re doing more than raising doubts and reinforcing Don’s talking points to win this.
