…
If they want to revive something truly kitshy from the 80s, but that also happened to be, um, GOOD, they need to pick up Buckaroo Banzai.
What was the watermelon for?
I’m waiting for the Square Pegs reunion show.
This has potential as long as they stick to the comics and far, far, FAR away from the 1986 movie.
Howard had a fun crossover story arc with “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” recently.
The comic book is originally ‘70s and supposedly vastly superior to the kitschy movie. An argument could be made that this time they can get it right.
I’m with Papasan, this doesn’t make sense on any level; surface, sub-genre, cult. The barest shred of an explanation that I can come up with is that Hulu picked up the “Howard the Duck” property for pennies on the dollar, and no matter what piece of crap they crank out its’ still enough of a tie-in to the Marvel Universe movies to make money.
" Team Banzai botanical agronomists have been for years hard at work on the problem of hunger in Third World countries under constant revolutionary turmoil. A non-political, humanitarian effort, their goal has been to find ways to feed starving peoples in remote areas where traditional food delivery systems prove woefully inadequate. Often the only way to get the nourishment into the bellies of the needy is to hit and run, avoiding all petty ideological side-taking. What you see in the Critical Stress Lab is a revolutionary watermelon capable of withstanding impact pressures of 300,000 pounds per square inch! Sweet, juicy and vitamin-packed, this remarkable fruit can be dropped from the bomb bays of low-flying aircraft into the backyards of disenfranchised villagers in the remotest backwaters of this angry planet. Just another Team Banzai effort to cut through all the unnecessary crap around us and help people help themselves. Look for high-impact, low cholesterol eggs next… and sooner than you think, shatter-proof whole-wheat taco shells."
I dare them to remake the Garbage Pail Kids movie.
That’s not my understanding. The idea of the character was invented for the screen. There is a comic that was produced afterward. I have it.
Wait, are you talking about Banzai or HtD? You can tell which I care about, lol.
Wait, wasn’t Howard’s corpse visible in the Collector’s collection in Guardian’s of the Galaxy?
I feel like I know too much…
EDIT: I misremembered.
Howard the D
Everybody need see Buckaroo.
Nope, the comic predates the film by 13 years.
The real question is why they chose that particular character for Marvel’s first theatrical feature film. Maybe you’re thinking of a comic published afterward as a movie tie-in?
No, he survived the explosion to drink martinis and deliver commentary about dogs in the post-credits sequence. He was also talking up some women at a robotic whorehouse in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2.
I’m waiting for the Square Pegs reunion show.
I honestly loved that show.
“Totally different head. Totally.”
The Captain America serial was the actual first, I think. And the Hulk pilot and a couple Spider-Man films, fashioned from the 70s TV series, played theatres in Europe earlier.
According to the standards of what Hollywood counts as a “feature film” Howard the Duck was still Marvel’s first.
