So we actually have no idea if they are friendly, they could be bloodthirsty killers.

It would be remarkable if they weren’t. All known species of cephalopods are carnivorous, and many octopuses are even cannibalistic.

That’s a lovely looking cephalopod; but, also the casual chit-chat among the observers is cool too. We need more chat like that in sci-fi films.
Opportunistic cannibalism, buddy! We’ve not fixated on eating our own!
