Yay for salmiak! I love Tyrkisk Peber. For chewy salmiak, my go-to is Nordic Sweets salty licorice fish. Perfectly resilient chew (not gummy like the Dutch brands Iā€™ve tried), rich licorice flavor, just the right amount of sweetness, and the saltiness is electric. So good.

Iā€™m very much a lover of everything, but yeah, salmiak is so damn good! Those salty fish look good, maybe theyā€™re a bit like these? Called Salta Fiskar in Sweden, lit Salty Fish.

I need to find some of that! Warheads which only makes ultra sour candies used to make hot ones that were coated with cayenne. The hot plus sweet artificial cherry flavor was good.

These ones are all salmiak at first, and then slowly the hot insides start to leak out. Perfect combo, hot and salmiak!

these remind me of a dutch candy called dubbel zoute which is salted first with ammonium chloride and then with sodium chloride. unless the combination of ammonia, licorice, and salt appeals to you it is not a very pleasant candy.

I have no idea what ammonia tastes like, but yeah, that sounds a bit odd. Anything ammonia for sure smells p badā€¦

If you like hot + sweet + sour, then check a latino market. There are a lot of candies like that, but my favorite is tamarind with chile.

Oh, I have had so much fun picking up random candies and snacks from Asian markets! Me and a friend did stumble across these hot spicy tamarind candies, for one thing. Quite good, actually!

I love trying random Asian candies. With labels in Spanish, I can read about what Iā€™m getting. At the Asian market, I just go by what is pretty, or interesting. As long as itā€™s only a couple of dollars, I will absolutely take a chance. Thatā€™s how I discovered that roasted seaweed snack is better than most candy.

My parents (okay, mom) bought five of those and five of the solid bunnies for us. We got so much candy on that day!

Weā€™d also get this for every St. Patrickā€™s Day.

When I was little I thought Irish potatoes were really candy and that the Irish ate these every day.

Salmiak is ammonia chloride. Itā€™s a conflict for me that I like eating something that has ammonia in it.

Oh!

Then it is absolutely delicious! No problem at all!

It definitely doesnā€™t do that to meā€¦

Years ago I found somebody online trying to reverse engineer them. Gotta see if I can dig that up againā€¦
