In-N-Out donates $25,000 to California Republican Party, under Trump. There's a boycott.

With Republicans taking on Trump’s stances, as well as rhetoric, it is not conflating in the slightest. The Clinton administration in the 90’s is a poor comparison.

Yeah most fries are FFF - fried, frozen, (transported) and fried again. That’s why fast food fries have that kind of crispy and bubbly outside and soft inside. I’ve done this at home (well, my work kitchen during off hours) with different types of potatoes and cuts and it’s surprisingly easy to replicate that McDicks texture. Blue/purple potatoes work great but they turn out damn ughhhly.

Also fast food fries have their sugars/starch regulated (it involves a water bath and light alkalines), so if you get In-n-Out (or Five Guys) fries when the potatoes were harvested during the peak season they’re unbelievably great.

I learned this and more potato knowledge from a book that I checked out from the library that I cannot remember the name of and it’s driving me nuts.

If you want the Chick-Fil-A taste without a side of bigotry, if you can otherwise make a decent piece of fried chicken, the secret to their taste is that the chicken is brined in pickle juice.

Now you can have the best of both worlds!

Wish there were a place in the US that made British style chip-shop fries. I’m taken to understand that the secret is to use a super starchy potato – nothing that would pass for a fry potato in the US. The varieties in the UK are different than here but I hear that good old Russets should work…

I’d rather go to El Farolito anyways!

So you are claiming that the California RP is taking on Trump’s positions?

If you go to a restaurant supply store you may be able to find super-starch potatoes

Looks like you may not have had The Habit. IIRC originally from Santa Barbara and they continue to grow.

edit

Looks like many up north.

I guess figuring out what to do with 50 lbs of super starchy potatoes isn’t the worst kind of problem to have…

I’ve had The Habit twice and I found it rather bland (and rather pricey). I think there may be two factors though: it was in Utah so the QC may not of been up to snuff, and probably more importantly is that I am allergic to avocados, and they seem very avo-dependent like El Pollo Loco. Places like that seem to rely on the forbidden green goddess too much and don’t season the rest of their food to well.

As a Santa Barbaran I do love me some Habit. Even their lettuce-wrap burger (for when I’m doing the Whole30) is better than all the other lettuce-wraps. Plus it’s cheap!

You think Devin Nunes and Dana Rohrbacher are better? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I am so sorry about your disappoint. The Santa Barbara Char is one of my absolute favorites. Add bacon and it is sublime.

The avocado thing is odd. This is the only burger on the menu that comes with it. Maybe it was a Utah thing pushing the testicle fruit.

We are always laughing about how creepy Chik Fil A is. For awhile they were taking orders outside with tablets and I thought their drive through was broken or something. “We are trying to be upstanding citizens with this order taking.” No, they were obviously and purposefully trying too hard and it was creepy, like robots trying to be human.

Re: Chik Fil A, the first time I tried it I was terribly underwhelmed. Same with White Castle, 5 Guys and the rest of the Eastern Giants.

I think a lot of these favorites depend on if you grew up with them.
