That’s hasn’t been true in several election cycles.
It’s motivating the base and activating new voters that decides elections. Those “undecided centrists” are neither anyway.

Oh no, you’re absolutely right and definitely not engaging in wishful thinking - sorry if I implied such. He is, of course, declining mentally and physically. As you say, it’s unavoidable. I’m sure people close to him notice a difference. My issue is that he was in such bad mental shape to begin with, it’ll take a significant amount of decline for me to be able to notice. I’ve always thought of him as vacillating between incoherency and (semi-coherent) idiocy, so if his idiocy is now less coherent…

I speak from personal experience on accepting the undeniable reality of aging; due to good genes and a healthier than average lifestyle, I didn’t consciously notice it was happening to me at first… until it started to hurt.
Even if one is prime physical condition, time still takes its toll.
And let’s be frank - 45 was not in good physical condition 40 years ago, let alone now.

… 2024 is different. Trump is not making his pitch to voters as a first time candidate. He is a known quantity who is being judged by the electorate not for the conduct of his current campaign so much as his time in office. And that, political veterans warn, makes it much harder for him to win back the people he’s alienated, including those once willing to vote Republican.
I personally think he’s fucked and going to lose in the general election but those mthreffers cheat like hell and then there’s the electoral craziness and Russia, China, Iran, N. Korea making a mess of things…

In my experience, those “undecideds” and independents" are actually Republicans. They just don’t like to acknowledge it. Anyone who can’t see the stark contrast between the 2 parties is a flaming idiot as well. There’s no 2 equal sides to be calibrated.

Ugh, tell me about it. I’m painfully aware - emphasis on painful - of my physical and mental decline in the period of time since Trump first ran for office (some measurable amount of which I blame on Trump-induced stress).
