Then people will simply drink more before they board their flights.
ETA: this idea was used to stop or reduce food service on flights, to the extent that trips to Hawaii count as domestic, and thus you can be on an 8 hour flight with out much recourse.
Not if the TSA (or equivalent security) prevents them from entering the terminal if they’re too inebriated to fly. The problem is caused largely by drinking inside the terminal, while waiting for flights. It would be mostly solved by removing alcohol from the premises.
Yes, and blaming alcohol just seems like a cop out.
If I have to fly, I truly value being able to enjoy a glass of wine with my meal, whether that’s in the terminal or on the plane. It’s a small touch of humanity in what has become a dehumanizing experience.
It seems a bit of an overreaction to remove all alcohol from the premises.
Just hold people accountable for bad behavior, period. I feel like if the airlines had been doing this from the start, people wouldn’t be so antisocial.
It’s also that airlines have deliberately made the experience worse to increase their profits. If people could check bags for free there would be less stress about room in the overhead bins. If the food service was better, if the seats were more comfortable, if there was any feeling that the passengers time on the plane should be enjoyable instead of endurable over all people would behave better.
Covid and political stresses have really screwed up how some folks behave in general as well. Removing booze from the airport will just mean people drink before they get there,
Don’t give Ryanair ideas.
And duty free don’t forget. People buy duty free alcohol in the terminal, retail is a huge part of why airports are the way they are (Harvard design school project on the city’s guide to shopping claimed that the take in an airport was ten times the high street per m2).
Tenerife also was duty free even before Brexit. Cheap booze is a part of its appeal. Actually it’s great for the kids, the water park is amazing, and it’s a great walking destination (just head up North of Tiede).
Exactly. Or, I kind of think the people who are getting wasted on alcohol (whether pre-flight or in-flight) would just resort to pills if alcohol were off the (tray) table.
Personally I don’t give a shit what people put in their bodies. I just care how they behave in public.
