Insiders claim Trump campaign staff "suicidal"

I hope Trump hires Giuliani’s rotten kids to work on his campaign.

I wonder, though, if putting in a switch hitter so late in the game exposes the GOP even more as unprepared to lead. I mean, wouldn’t they basically be begging everyone to ask, “Wait, what? You’re only just now offering us your ‘real’ choice?”

I think (hope?) that they’ve gotten themselves into a Damned-If-They-Do/Damned-If-They-Don’t situation.

Seriously?!?

Eta: ok, I misread it at first and thought he was talking about chipping people. But still, tracking bracelets and such are used for those who have already committed a crime, not those who we may merely suspect of doing things. And that’s without considering the terror list might not be 100% accurate in the first place… [headdesk.gif.]

The fact that they’re staging an “intervention” after the convention doesn’t speak well for the future. It also says a lot about them that they’re not just cutting their losses now.

I’m happy with republicans on the wrong side of a “heads I win, tails you lose” scenario!

Sorry, that was me running with an ‘inject’ joke, but yeah, the idea of procedures making someone guilty-by-default is horrifying.

2004, but yeah, some things haven’t changed for a while.

All of “them” are spreading the “terrorism” of Islam!

Trump is only trying to “secure the existence of American people and a future for Christian children”, after all.

Nah, they’ve got plenty of ratfuckers lying in wait for closer to the election. I am not looking forward to whatever the latest generation of Young Republicans has cooked up.

Funny thing about the Trump. He happened to be born at the exact right time so he was able to take daddy’s money and get into NYC real estate when it was pretty much necessary to use a bathysphere to find the price - relative to now.
The city was still reeling from being literally on fire.
And yet he still has a string of bankruptcies in his past. But overall, he got really fucking lucky. Lucky to be born with a silver spoon in his maw, lucky to be born at the right time - and lucky that no one has punched his ticket for being such a major dickbag.

Definitely getting what they deserve.

Trump kept the box that Melania came in so he can return her when she turns 50. (Bill Maher).

and Manafort did work for Putin’s lackey Yanukovich.

You know, in a way he can legitimately claim a win. He did, after all, win the RNC nomination fair-ish and squar-ish , so regardless of what happens in November he can claim that, and if (when. Oh please let it be when) Clinton wipes the floor with his cheeto-crumb stained toupee he can still claim a win for Team Orange and look forward to 2020: "look at me - I came from nowhere, and in just fifteen months shook up the establishment so much I nearly won the presidency!

Trump-Duke 2020! It’s gonna be Yuge!

I’m sure that’s his thinking. But US elections are weird. There’s a high amount of scrutiny, and Manafort’s name is at the forefront now. There will be plenty of embarrassing tell-alls, post campaign assessments, investigative reports. Many of which will focus heavily on Manafort. A bad loss could very well destroy his reputation. Usually that’d be fairly well isolated to the US (which is apparently how Manafort ended up working with foreign autocrats, burned his reputation here), but the profile is so high on this. Coverage of this shit is already spread to much of the rest of world.

The problem with that. And this is part of what Trump is showing us. Is that that version of the GOP and conservativism? The not into religiously derived social issues, wonkish, small government, capital C Conservative thing? Not actually all that popular. The GOP started its reign of Terror when Reagan doubled down on the dog whistling racism the Nixon pioneered and added in close ties to conservative Protestant Christian groups. Cut out the racism and the religious/social angle and your basically left with the older, white, college educated members of the business class. Who are vastly outnumbered in the electorate by nearly everyone else. You’ve basically got a party made of Mitt Romneys. That stopped working a half century or more ago, and shows no signs of increased popularity today. Both our parties are coalitions, rather than demographically and ideologically pure organizations. The GOP coalition is a lot narrower than the DNC’s. And a combination of their ideological foundations, nasty recent history, policies (even the ones from the Mitts), and all that built in hate largely blocks them from inviting new groups into the coalition. So if you cut out one of the parts the whole edifice either collapses or splits. Which equates to a period of electoral losses, and falling influence in government. Before you get a completely new party, or a serious re-alignment.

A lot of the grudging support Trump seems to be getting might be predicated on that. Suck it up, try to win as much as you can, to stave off the sort of break up that infighting or out and out collapse that lack of unity or a sufficiently huge loss could cause. Basically ignore how fucked up everything is on your end, in the hopes of holding shit together long enough to stabilize it.

I think its messy. Any additional mess hurts rather than helps. Additionally Trump has been hammering the “rigged” line, and specifically accusing the GOP of not wanting or supporting him. He repeatedly floated that “they” would take “it” a way from him before the convention. Threatened riots if he wasn’t nominated, and recommended his followers be “prepared” etc. for that eventuality. If they dump Trump now, they get those riots. Lose Trumps loudest backers. And the party splits. All of which fuck them for far longer than this one election.

The only way we lose Trump is if Trump drops out. But Trump is delusional, he’s already saying constantly that the polls showing him down are fake. Saying that his (apparently rapidly shrinking) crowds of “thousands” (meaning hundreds) are “proof” that he’s doing better than the polls say. That they indicate he must be winning, because (according to Trump) Hillary doesn’t get that many people. Nobody gets that amount of people. No body in history has gotten that many YUGE GREAT Crowds. His crowds are the greatest. Just other day they said to him “You know you really have nice hands, and so large”.

That would have been the case in the past, but the Republican party apparatus is in disarray. Now anyone who can get a couple of big money backers can jump in. It used to be that the party selected candidates, but when was the last time anyone asked Rience Priebus anything? The party has ceased to operate in the ways that it used to.
