I was deliberately not going there!
He’s already given Kushner a huge amount of power and influence and that should in theory run afoul of anti nepotism laws as well, yet nothing seems to be happening.
I just have little confidence that anything will be enforced in any meaningful way. I hope it does, though.
And this is likely why Ivanka is taking a position rather than being an advisor.
When Bill handed health care over to Hillary, she was officially an advisor – but that ran into problems when she wanted to keep all development secret, which ran afoul of the Federal Advisory Committee Act.
The American Association of Physicians and Surgeons sued over the closed meetings, arguing that the FACA provides for open meetings for any advisory committee. Clinton’s lawyers successfully counter-argued that First Lady was an unpaid government position, and as such, was exempt from the FACA as a government employee.
Ivanka will have additional ethics laws governing her as an employee; but who’s going to tell on her when she can do everything in secret under her Dad’s administration?
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a print-head stamping on fly on a form - forever.
can you imagine…
Given she actually seems to understand climate change, I’m holding out for this to be a good thing. Let’s face it, if the rest of the dross he’s surrounded himself with are anything to go by, selecting by genetic ties can only be an improvement.
This has nothing to do with what the current administration needs or wants, this is solely about setting up the bona fides for either Kushner or Ivanka to run for president.
People obviously forgot the lessons of 2000’s election by 2016, so the idea of someone voting in these hucksters in 2024+ is entirely realistic.
The long con…
I’m a little impressed at the narcissism on perpetual display by these louts. How can they believe they’re qualified to do any of this?!
“I’m supersmart! I’ll be president!”
“I’m supersmart too! I’ll be a presidential assisting person!”
Is Jared even in there officially yet, either? If so, it’s just barely happened; these things take a while to get sorted out. There was plenty of illegal crap they pulled during the campaign (to the point where some people are suggesting that it may be appropriate to bring up the RICO act) that has yet to be addressed. Hopefully soon, though. It would be sad if Trump got a whole term before people started going to jail.
I’m not. Climate change denial is too central a tenet of all the people pulling Trump’s strings. There’s no way he’s giving that up. Let’s face it - she and Jared have already been “guiding” him and it hasn’t helped a bit. Unfortunately I suspect what will happen is that she’ll be around more to help him navigate what’s going on, allowing him to be more effective in what he’s already trying to do rather than acting as any sort of moral compass. No matter how well intentioned she is (and she’s still advancing her business interests), she knows nothing about how to navigate the politics or counterbalance all the other voices demanding Trump take various stances. He’ll be relying on her for information she’s not qualified to give him. Best case scenario is she lets him know what Bannon is having him sign when he otherwise wouldn’t know until after, and it might rankle a bit when he signs.
Well, she’s not taking a salary, so I guess we’ll just overlook how she and her husband are massively enriching themselves through access to the office of the presidency…
I am sure she will be supplyimg Ivanka with plentiful supplies of mace and pepper spray.
Yes-I’m hoping that as long as we have to put up with nepotism, we might get some progress on childcare, family leave, etc.
You know, isn’t pepper spray orange? Could explain the strange coloration of our embarrassment in chief.
The disgusting thing is:
The Trump Administration – with this infusion of rank nepotism – is improved, and preferable to the Trump Administration without it.
The bottom (if such a thing is possible) would be Trump getting help from Leopard-killers Eric or Don, Jr.
New opportunities have opened up for killing trophy bears in Alaska, so they are probably otherwise occupied.
I think people are relieved to have people around Donald Trump who are comparatively normal human beings.
When people say that Ivanka isn’t experienced enough, she’ll reply that she’s been running the country for eight years already.
One would think that Trump’s alt-right base might be reluctant to vote for a Jewish candidate but who knows. They apparently didn’t think twice about voting for a narcissistic populist misogynistic racist douchebag who can’t speak in coherent sentences of more than six words, which unlike the other thing is an actual problem.
When Krushchev said that the Soviet Union would attend the funeral of capitalism (at the UN), he didn’t foresee that it would be in the persons of a half-Czech and a Slovenian. But I’m sure he would have approved. Ringside seats and all that.
I can’t decide if this is straightforward nepotism, or a desperate move by Ivanka and her husband to try and control Daddy Dearest’s outbursts better.
