I love the smell of von clownstick indictments in the early evening.
Or just shut up and retire somewhere.
… turn and face the strange… /bowie
so he admits to being a nazi. alright, then
This article that suggests Kenneth Chesebro is #5
Off topic, but I just realised BBS embedded youtube vids keep playing - even if I lock my phone screen.
The thought the BB standard-usage was Coconspiratopodes…
Yeah I saw that. I’m not very familiar with him. I’ve heard the name, but that’s about it. It seems no one is sure who #6 is.
I think a large part of this was the Jan 6 congressional committee investigation. Congress has broad-scope subpoena powers that allow them to look at factors beyond a specific crime. The DOJ had an information sharing agreement very early on in which they swapped intel. This allowed DOJ to cull a much broader scope of information than they could have via traditional means and much more efficiently. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of that testimony and evidence used in court.
The more boring stuff below the fold in this article also illustrates why things move so slow; it’s still a massive bureaucracy with all manner of procedures and norms:
Excellent analogy.
Plus, it’s also worth noting that between Fed and State prosecutions, now over 1000 people have been charged over Jan 6, all but one of them successfully so far. This produced a mountain of evidence and testimony as well as providing key evidence for that conspiracy charge up top. Just like a RICO prosecution, you start with the foot soldier morons, work your way up to the lieutenants, then the generals, then the big cheese. It’s just a little extra frustrating that this cheese was so obviously orange all along. But never fear, he’ll soon be sliced up and served on a platter for all America to enjoy.
My wife is a state’s attorney, and believe me, this is true no matter where.
But will trials, evidence, logic and facts matter to the millions of MAGAts?
Hoping to see followup indictments for the listed unnamed co-conspirators, but in no world did all this happen without GQP congressional co-conspirators. So will they be indicted, or would that just show how fucked our government is, and they’d rather just sweep it under the rug?
Here’s hoping. Because the electorate has a vested interest in a verdict before they vote.
I heard about him on a talk show, maybe Seth Meyers?, making jokes about “cheese bro” causing trouble in Wisconsin. When I look him up though, he has a TX license. And that’s all I know about him…
I wonder whether this is where AI might actually be useful. Not in writing pleadings, where it has been known to cite imaginary cases, but in wading through tons of stuff trying to figure out what might be interesting. I mean we already use “find” to look for particular words, but an AI just might be a little more sophisticated in figuring out what an actual human being should take a look at.
Indeed. At least in theory, congressional investigations are not supposed to be figuring out whether a crime has been committed, but whether something that SHOULD have been a crime was committed.
No, of course none of that will matter to his hardcore supporters. Neither will a conviction. It might, however, matter to GOP voters who are only supporting Trump because he’s their party’s likely nominee and to conservative leaning independents.
The shotgun approach is more typical where prosecutors stuff the indictment with potentially questionable or duplicative counts as a way to leverage a plea to just a few charges. This indictment is not a shotgun.
First, no way Lord Dampnut takes a plea, so the shotgun strategy would be a waste of time anyways. Second, DOJ wants this case to be tried before the 2024 election if possible, and don’t want to shoot themselves in the foot (sorry, not sorry) with a bloated indictment.
Still, they brought four charges instead of one, which is the right thing to do. The evidence supports the charges, and you want to have the jury choosing to convict on up to four. With only one charge you are taking a much bigger risk of mistrial or even acquittal. I’m not a gun person, so not sure of the right metaphor here. With pleadings this precise I tend to visualize a scalpel.
Yeah, like that.
