Exposure to any card game or not, girls would find Vance – teen or adult – to be creepy.

“So I dropped it like a bad habit.”

…along with the friends he played it with for two years, no doubt. I’ll bet most of us Happy Mutants remember an insecure, status-obsessed conformist dickhead like this from our own school days.

Were the cards … sticky?

Still waiting on that puke emoji.

Let’s please leave the cards out of this. The cards didn’t do anything wrong.

Those poor cards, man…

This combination of outrageous hot takes by someone with so little self awareness is delightfully hard to watch.

My problem is there is a large core of folks who buy into this somehow and will vote for Tr***/Vance. That and the gerrymandering and the vote suppression continue to terrify me.

Here ya go (Vance being puke).

First Pokemon, now M:tG… what does this guy have against collectible card games?

Yu-Gi-Oh fans watch out.

So he’s admitting that his political pattern was established as a teenager. Instead of being genuine and promoting personal interests, he’s always been willing to change in order to ingratiate himself with people he finds my be advantageous to him. Good to hear. This is probably one of the most honest things he’s ever said publicly.

I guess the challenge with M:tG is that you need a table- it’s not the kind of game you can play just sitting on the couch.

I never played M:tG, but did play a variety of role playing games.

We actually had girls ask to join our group when they found out we played. We had a roughly 50/50 split at our table by graduation.

Like everything else in his life, Vance was doing it wrong.

Incredibly appropriate quote from “The Social Network”:

“But you’re going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole.”

I was looking for a “It’s in the cards” pic. This is better.

The only MTG that’s a real deal-breaker for most people is the fascist loon who keeps trying to out-crazy Lauren Boebert.

It just occurred to me, they buy into it because they are in a TR/ANCE

Well, those were the starter friends that he hung out with until he could get his real friends … or at least his real enough until even better friends come along. It’s the Republican way!

No, dumb ass, that’s all on you. I’ve seen your type in game stores and at conventions for decades now. They don’t like you, of course, and many stores do cater to your type, but those stores either get a reputation, go out of business, or both, since that repels many customers, not just 15-year-old girls.

Stores that don’t attract your type, and there are many of those too, also get a reputation, but they also attract customers and most of them stay open for decades. I know at least two in my area that are starting to get business from the third generation of some families.

It was never the games, dude. It was always you. Now go sit down on the couch and think about what you’ve done … no, not that!

Related: I highly recommend The No-Girlfriend Rule by Christen Randall. There’s quite a bit about why many non cis male players avoid those stores and customers like JD here. (It’s also a good story!)
