Jeb Bush's saddest moments

So I think you’re agreeing the Bush is the least disagreeable?

and

I find it funny how hard it is to make a choice when none of the options is a good one. Still, I can’t believe that you would rather be shot in the head than rank the Republican candidates from best to worst.

No in my scenario he’d just have a moment of clarity, and realise there was more to life than forcing people to make largely arbitrary decisions at gunpoint. Then he’d follow his dreams!

I hope you’re someone with no friends or family. I know I wouldn’t abandon my wife and kids rather than answer a question.

That’s not the hypothetical scenario though. Since you seem to have some opinion, I assume you know a little about the Republican candidates. Why is it so hard to say A would be a better president than B?

This crop of Republican candidates is the biggest sack of door knobs I have ever seen. I mean, I guess we’ve all just accepted the fact that the President of the US is just a figurehead for some kind of strange arcane covert political apparatus, and their actual personage is of little importance, but this bunch of dickholes hammer home that point with such an overt contempt for humanity that picking one of them would be a crime. It’s like it would imply that some preference among them would have meaning.

I guess it might this time. I’m going for anyone but fucking Trump.

Do you come from my shitty hometown or just love sofas?

That’s what they want you to do!

Jesus really? You think this is a false flag op? Damn fine work if it is…

No, but he serves to make people like Cruz look pretty normal, when by any human standards they are closer ideologically to ISIS than anything you’d consider civilised.

I know right? There was just this point after Iowa where the world took a deep breath because Trump lost, and then went, holy crap, look at Cruz…

You almost feel bad for the guy–well, not really–but then I think of the gun tweet. God damn you, man. God damn you. “America”??

I’m a trans woman on disablity welfare who has anarcho-syndicalist sympathies. I don’t think there is a Republican candidate who wouldn’t be a threat to my life in some way. I would rather get it over with as quickly as possible in those circumstances.

I almost feel glad that I live in the UK, and I only have to deal with David Hameron, George Osborne and Iain Duncan-Smith being shit every day.

No picking of candidates then. Merely rank the candidates on paper from worst to best. Surely you wouldn’t rather die than say Kasich seems more reasonable than Rubio (for example), right?

Given that the health-related proposals, bathroom bills and pro-discrimination platforms of both those candidates would inevitably lead to actual death of trans women …

As @celesteh has suggested, ALL the republican candidates would be a literal danger to my life, but if you insist on a list then I rank them all behind the write in candidates of just about every member of the Green party and the various US socialist parties, and most of the Democrats too (although some of them would be a poor choice too). There are probably a few Libertarian Party members names above the Republicans too, and I wouldn’t usually consider voting for them either.

Is it really worth insisting that I continue to rank the candidates that I view as dangerous, when there are a few million people who I would rather vote for first?

I think it is worth it. I go through exercises like this all the time - I try to understand the world from different points of view. It involves leaving your bubble (and places like this forum are definitely lacking in diversity when it comes to points of view from the right) to learn about the candidates and positions of people you would never support in a million years.

BTW, I wasn’t asking to rank all candidates from all parties, only the small slate of Republican candidates. It’s easy to start small: Kasich vs Cruz? My pick for least objectionable candidate has left the race, so I’m about to go through this exercise again for myself.

I do too, but I don’t see how ranking people who would happily see you dead helps with that. They all have different views, all abhorrent and, as I have repeatedly said, personally dangerous to me.

It’s all relative. From my political position it seems like most of the Democrats are conservative. My views have changed more in my lifetime than the current difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. I have also had plenty of disagreements with people here who don’t believe in what I believe, but because I am arguing from the far left (Libertarian-Communist) I can see how that might get missed by, for example, someone on the right who thinks that Hillary is a communist (She’s a bourgeois/conservative socialist at most).

I know you weren’t, my answer was I would write in nearly anyone else over the Republican candidates. Noam Chomsky, Mickey Mouse, Jeremy Corbyn, whoever. That wasn’t a good enough answer for you. You don’t seem to understand that I do not have a preference, except maybe the donkey vote. This isn’t because I don’t care, it’s because there is no option that doesn’t cause me, and others like me, considerable harm.

It’s like asking me which of my perfectly healthy legs I would like to have amputated. It doesn’t matter which one I pick, I will not be able to walk afterwards, so there is no real difference to me. Other people can feel free to argue the case between their left and right legs, but I believe I should be able to say that is a completely meaningless choice for some people.

I will say it again, there is no Republican candidate who is not a danger to my life, and I am not being hyperbolic about this. I am also trying to not invoke Godwin’s law here.

No it isn’t. The labels aren’t what is interesting to me, it’s the viewpoint. No matter what you want to call them, the perspective of people that support Cruz, Rubio, Trump, et al. is definitely missing here and we are worse off for it.

Well, here’s the most reasonable candidate.

It gets worse from there down.

At the moment it’s far over to the right, more so in the US than in Europe.

This isn’t a discussion in the US or Europe. It’s a discussion among the happy mutants of this forum. Here, right wing ideas are unthinkable while just about anything left of center is at least acceptable.
