well, there were lessons to be learned on many sides in 2016. i’m thinking that bernie is a smart guy, and learns from his defeats. i do not think he would use the same tactic again this year. i think he’d definitely want to continue with the next debate and see what that gets him, but after that, i would think if biden was still far and away the leader, he’d throw in behind him. trump is the Big Bad we need to get done with here.
that’s exactly why biden was the absolute last person i ever would’ve voted for.
still, sanders can either make it easy or he can make it hard. having sanders money directed at trump instead of biden will do everybody good.
maybe warren now can say the same. dear joe, you want to put the nail in this coffin? i’ll support you, but here’s my list.
Still feels horribly like short term thinking. What do you do with a two party system, when each party takes off with the notion they have a “mandate from the people” when we hold our noses and vote for them? (Sorry gatto. Not so much directed at you as just general frustration. )
Sorry, but that’s fucked.
In Canada, federal voting usually uses school gymnasiums. In urban, suburban areas, no one has to go more than a few blocks to vote. If there was a half-hour to wait before voting on a paper ballot, they’d be excusing for the delay.
i know. it’s super depressing.
it’s not like old joe will be out there supporting candidates like aoc and the rest of the squad. probably the exact opposite.
that said, even if it’s not a lot of consolation to say he won’t be as bad as 45 or 43, i’ll still take it…
which i guess is kind of the point.
a friend pointed out recently that biden is our decoy effect. not the most sensible choice, but when comparing 45 and sanders, he seemed like the safest choice ( to some )
I suppose one thing to do, as we all swallow what we are being shoved, is figure out how to inoculate the most people against that sort of messaging before the election four years from now, though it seems like a truly uphill battle.
I don’t know, maybe this is “truly what the people want” but I’ve been through this cycle more than enough times to not really buy it.
Yeah, that’s not me. I’m thinking through the lens of 2004. Kerry failed to energize the party, but the stakes didn’t seem as high then as they do now.
I’m not making excuses for anybody. I voted for Bernie in 2016, and I voted for him today. I’m sad that he is almost certainly not going to last much longer In this race.
I can only hope that even if Biden doesn’t excite the progressives, people will recognize the criticality of not letting Trump win. Biden sucks but with Trump winning a second term we’re well and truly fucked.
wait! i think you’re missing the obvious solution: privatize the vote!
^ invisible gif of the invisible hand.
Fucked and fuckeder, seems like the message that dooms us every time. It’s a slow death, but at least it’s slower. Honestly you could run a ham sandwich against Trump and it should win. Trump didn’t really win the vote last time, and he’s less popular now.
I blame Warren alot for this. Where the rest of the moderates got behind Joe. Warren sat it out and didn’t say a thing.
It looks like the feud for TV whether it was real or not made it so many Warren voters either didn’t vote or voted for Biden because she didn’t endorse.
I know I’m going to get some haters here but, I donated twice to her campaign and organized events for her campaign so I don’t care at this point.
I was also completely prepared to get behind her last summer when it looked like she was going to win. I feel like this is a remarkable betrayal by Warren.
I don’t think the progressive movement will forget this betrayal, come the next time she wants or seeks support for the nomination for presidency and instead of endorsing the vehicle for progressive change, she sat on the sidelines and did nothing.
Yet she persisted has changed to Yet, she sat on the sidelines and did nothing.
I don’t think I’ll look at my Warren coffee mug the same anymore. I’ll look at it as, Billionaire Tears because I undermined the progressive movement to get a position in the billionaire donors campaign “if he wins”.
You’re not helping anyone with a statement like that.
I put skin in the game for both Bernie and Warren. I honestly don’t care at this point, sorry.
So not caring is painting one as a spoiler? That’s. … interesting logic. If you don’t care, you should probably hold your tongue.
It’s spelled “adieu”.
I meant it more as I’m going to speak my piece/peace and I don’t care what others think about it tbh.
Well the thing of it is - despite how we feel about him - there are many people who actually are excited about Trump.
They don’t really give a flying fig if it’s a majority or not - and 4 more years is something that they are excited over.
I don’t know a single dem that is excited about Biden - they’ll get all worked up about Trump - but talk about Biden and it goes to a look like they are eating cold oatmeal.
Well, you can not care what others think, but if you’re going to make a statement, be prepared to hear what others think.
It’s not always obvious at the time.
Say, sounds like you haven’t had your daily Joementum pill yet! Take one quick, it’ll turn that frown upside down!
Bad night for America.
