I’m reminded of that cover album, Gravelands, from the 90s by Jim “The King” Brown. All the covers were of songs where the original vocalist was already deceased at the time of recording (kind of an afterlife jam session). It was a cool concept, about as smoky and dark as you’d expect.
That’s a hell of Johnny Cash, not least as this guy is a Scotsman (or at least living in Scotland).
More proof that Mr. Cash was OG…
The artists’ styles really mesh well together here. Now I kind of want to see a Coolio impersonator singing about how he killed a man in Reno just to watch him die.
That’s super cool.
I just love these kind of covers which subvert the original style into something new!
Hayseed Dixie are brilliant on heavy metal! Paul Anka did a great album called Rock Swings.
Excellent Johnny Cash impersonation. Truly spot on.
