Jon Stewart's return to the Daily Show (video)

Also, because he wasn’t 10 years younger in 2020 when he was nominated by Dem voters. He was 4 years younger.

I think a 10 years younger Biden would have been a MUCH worse president than the one we have now. He listens to others much better than he did then. He (seems) more empathetic. Frankly, the Joe Biden of 2024 is the best Joe Biden has ever been as a politician.

But he made a tone deaf appeal to the youth vote, which no other presidential candidate has ever done before EVAR! /s

The Jon Stewart hosted Daily Show and Colbert Report doubleheader of ~15 years ago was my favorite thing on tv. Watched every night and it was great. I have zero interest in Stew Beef re-hosting, though. This is worse than re-runs.

The world will pass me by and I will be (or maybe already am) too old and out of touch. At which point I should shut up and step aside for younger generations.

Meh, I doubt younger generations have much interest either in Jon Whatshisname returning to some tv show they never watch.

Can’t believe Jon Stewart said that both of the old candidates are old but one of them is worse and then listed many of the ways that he’s worse, including some of his many crimes. I’ve been scromiting all morning. The bothsideism must stop.

It was a reminder to ME at least that it’s okay to talk about it. To understand “yep, it’s not great, and here’s why I’m voting for him despite that (waves at the fucking raping fascist he faces).” Pretending it doesn’t exist and refusing to talk about it is nonsense.

as though that absolves him of the need to defend his position when someone points out an inconsistency,

But it does. As Mindy pointed out, the real media should be talking about this shit, and pointing out Trump is not only just as forgetful, but also a fucking fascist. John’s just reminding us not to trust him, a fucking comedian, for our opinions and news. And he’s right.

It’s a comedian’s “everything sucks” form of Bothsidesism, a result of privilege and success. You need someone hungry and/or marginalised or at least angry (in a funny way, at a George Carlin or Lewis Black or young Lenny Bruce level) to do a proper job.

Stewart is not really any of those things. When he gets angry he gets serious and his innate talent combined with his fame gets results. When he laid into Carlson and Begala or when he supported healthcare for veterans he made a real impact. In those cases he pointed out substantial flaws* shared by both sides. Hosting TDS, though, he’s just trying to make people on both sides laugh.

[* “They’re both so old” might make for some funny gag lines, but that’s obvious to most people and isn’t the most pressing issue.]
