For better or for worse this guy is the face of the coup attempt. That’s why he was one of the first to be tried. He’s a symbol, a pars pro toto for the whole insurrection, and his costume is a pars pro toto for him. As I understand it, the Smithsonian’s mission is to document American history. There’s no more fitting exhibit I can think of that exemplifies this event.
