“without pay” is a real problem - and, note, those aren’t terribly cheap clothes those young people are wearing. There’s a lot of problems with internships, problems that straddle race and class. But: there’s an awful lot of nonwhite young people who already live in DC, whose parents are covering their room, their board, potentially their health insurance; “no pay” would be a hardship, but less crippling than for someone from out of town. It’s not like it would be difficult for a Congressperson or their chief of staff to visit local schools and encourage people to apply.
… or are interns from a congressperson’s home district? Because that would be plausible, but it would make the “no pay” thing really extra abusive.
I think that actually makes it worse. If they were all his interns, it would only say something about the Speaker’s office. If they’re from multiple offices, it says a heck of a lot more.
Nope… not nearly as white as Ryan’s pic, sorry. at least a third if not more of this one has POC. I think we’ve found one POC in the Ryan pic. But white majority, okay. I’ll buy that.
Hell, I have a great deal of difficulty imagining the motivation of anyone of any ethnicity being connected to the Republican party, let alone anyone of a group whom they’ve actively worked to repress. OK, I can imagine motivation, but I don’t particularly like invoking anything related to Godwin’s law.
