Kamala Harris makes it official

In a more just world, anyone who worked as a senior adviser for Clinton in 2016 or 2008 would be seen as poison by the current Dem aspirants.

Lucky you.

This! And yes, we’re all well aware of the misogyny aimed at her too… but ignoring that she had some real flaws in policy isn’t going to help. Letting the democratic party know what we want policy wise from them, and putting pressure on them to deliver is the best way to get the people at the top to change what the party platform is.

We’ll know if someone publicly takes her to task on law enforcement issues and she doubles down or admits to not having a perfect record…

What is missing from this discussion is the impact of the Russian Collusion on the 2016 election. Clinton could have done anything and everything and she would have still lost. And as of right now this side of the equation remains unresolved or actually is worse as you have an entire national security apparatus who have been unpaid for 32 days.

Which is not an ideal set up for counterespionage department.

The main problem? She’s a war-hawk and a profiteer, still connected to past presidents who did the same. No amount of goodwill can make up for the US’s horrendous record of colonialism.

I think that Harris’ hard stance on “obvious” bad guys, but ignoring the laws that ensnare the innocent, she will perpetuate the USA’s double standards. Her support of FOSTA/SESTA shows that she still thinks like a prosecutor, and chooses to fight symptoms rather than root causes.

Except, that we, unlike the US are within Putin’s missile range. The undermining of NATO feels pretty scary around here. War in Europe tends to be all encompassing.

Everyone you’re talking with here knows all about the Russian collusion with Il Douche. That doesn’t change the fact that Clinton and her campaign staff and the DNC establishment all blew it, too. Perhaps if they’d been more competent it might have offset Uncle Vovik’s games, perhaps not, but that’s a question for future historians and a side issue to this discussion.

We don’t know that, actually.

Just because she’s preferable, doesn’t mean we can’t criticize her (or KH).

The Russians, Chinese, and possibly NK have nukes that CAN reach the US.

In the case of a nuclear war, we’re ALL fucked, not just people next door to Vlad.

Sure… in the US, we have absolutely “nothing” to fear from nuclear holocaust and the repercussions thereof if everything goes sideways.

Right.

You have a nice day now.

Please, don’t misinterpret what I said. Nuclear annihilation is universal. POC are under siege in the US through ICE and militarised police.

We have tanks rolling up towards the Baltic boarders and a continuous war in Ukraine --these are new developments around here.

Weird, what I fear is more kids in more cages.

I didn’t; I’m just not interested in continuing this conversation.

Again, have a good day.

Several Russian ICBMs can reach from the middle of Russia to any spot in the continental US. The US counterparts can return the favor. Everyone’s in range.

I am talking about tanks and troop exercises involving 300 000 troops:

Seriously though; mutually-assured mass destruction is an end result that NO ONE wants.

First off, I’m over 40 and a woman, so don’t give me that shit about people over 50. I’m nearly there and am dealing with a good deal of discrimination in my daily life based on age and gender.

And I work with young people on a regular basis. They have real world concerns. They don’t give a shit if someone dances or not. Many of the care about the issues and would rather hear about what politicians are going to do about the student debt crisis, about the economy, about health care, about being able to afford an education and later a house… that’s what most of them care about. I know because I actually talk to young people regularly.

Should we go back and point out how the Trump administrations policies are in part an intensification of the prior administrations, and also that President Obama dropped a shit ton of bombs on lots of brown people? How about we get some politicians talking about that stuff instead of covering it over and acting cool. How about we got some politicians who are going to DO. THEIR  JOBS

How many American troops are living in the middle of Germany right now and how quickly would more be deployed if there was a problem? How many could be brought up from the Middle East and Africa rather quickly? Plus, all the regional military forces?

There is a reason why Putin hasn’t invaded, and it’s because he’s not that stupid.

You should really fear the people who put them there and not the children.

Strangely, I don’t want to live in a war zone no matter how many troops the US can mobilise in no time. Putin has invaded Crimea and nothing happened. So there is potential;(

All this just to highlight that the upcoming US election has huge consequences beyond the US and it would be nice to listen to the candidates rather than dismiss them out of hand on the basis of silly marketing decisions.

Maybe we shouldn’t vote for war hawks from either party…

Again, you’re missing the point. It’s not about her dancing or whatever… it’s about her background in law enforcement where she’s shown herself to be tough on crime instead of interested in fixing the problem. That’s related to racism in the US, and has contributed to the high number of African American men in jail. So, I AM TALKING ABOUT ISSUES THAT IMPACT MEMBERS OF MY COMMUNITY. How about you don’t just dismiss that out of hand, since I LIVE HERE AND SEE HOW IMPACTS MY FELLOW CITIZENS.

BOTH parties are going to push for policies that antagonize Putin, unless one of the parties change.
We’d be in no less a problematic relationship with the Russians with either party at the helm. The relationship seriously deteriorated under both previous administrations, in part because Putin has regional and global aspirations that have nothing to do with whether or not we elect either party. That’s what you’re missing in this larger picture.
