Keeping it light -- what TV shows do you find unwatchable?

Mostly because he can build a chicken gun to hunt you down with.

I’m sorry but no they can’t pull it off.

Back to thread? Family Guy generally was ‘eh’ but got on my hate list when I saw an episode where Megan finally got sick of being everyone’s chewtoy (seriously what’s up with the casual level of ‘we hate meg’ that gets written there?) Then decides its better for her to be there as the lightning rod so the family doesn’t eig out and destroy itself. Also how abryan is basically ‘haha look how being a creative will get you constantly made fun of. Constantly. Forever.’

Why, are they glued to their heads?

I don’t think it says healthy things about me I could go on about a lot of shows they’re on.

The Black Panthers?

Typo. ‘Shows that are on.’ My bad.

Those are all very old shows! Easy to avoid, if you don’t tune to one of the nostalgia channels.

Currently, I’m the only one at home who watches TV at all, so I don’t have your problem. If the TV’s on, it’s because it’s late at night and I’m unwinding by sitting there and watching something I’ve recorded (never live TV).

Yeah, the Family Guy stuff is intentional but ironic. It’s too bad it’s been turned unironic by the dudebros who watch the show.

Regarding TBBT:

Nailed it!

Which shows? We’ve mostly been talking about stuff like police procedurals and The Simpsons, which have been on the air forever but still have new episodes. Even Gilmore Girls qualifies in this category because of the new Netflix season, but even without that season it’s not nearly old enough to qualify as nostalgia TV.

Is Modern Family still on? Anyone wanna swipe at that one? Here goes:

Modern Family isn’t that modern. The female characters have no lives outside the home and are basically only there to be eye candy. Even the teenage girls. Mitchell and Cam are nothing more than gay stereotypes. It has its moments and its funny dialogue, but is largely two dimensional.

On the subject of actual nostalgia TV, I like All In The Family and Roseanne. Good good shit, and still relevant today.

I actually like rosanne. It isn’t a perfect family but it isn’t, by modern standards, ‘look how not normal these people are.’

Anyone here watch will and grace?

Two people make that unwatchable. Jack and whoever the girl is. Both of them are selfish sociopathic creeps I want to punch with a brick.

I have never seen Will And Grace, but it looks to me like TV about gay people for people who have no gay friends but who still want to say they’re progressive.

A lot of stuff on BBC America, some of the formulaic drama shows, movies, concerts. Most of the shows mentioned by people on this forum I don’t watch, ever. Don’t know if it’s because I’m on the older side, or because I don’t have the same interests.

Bingo.

Given will and grace has the two title characters basically a sitcom married couple except will is gay.

Will and Grace is to straight people as Big Bang Theory is to non-geeks.

Modern Marvels is pretty good. The rest of it…pass

Coming soon to HGTV!!! BBS Flip!! Teams go though old comments, recycle them to make them fresh and hip again and then sell them to other posters!! Saturdays at 1:00 PM EST!!

Yes!!! When they do the nerd stuff or gamer stuff, I cringe. Still considering the target audience, not a big surprise.

My wife grew up in Miami and according to her, that’s pretty much the whole city. People trying to look a certain way or be a certain way due to everyone else doing it. “Be an individual by following everyone else!!”

Yes indeed.

Reality TV has already been called out, so I’ll toss South Park into the ring.

Easy there, our own @Donald_Petersen got some award nominations for that show. It was OK for the times it was broadcast, and better than the competition (Seinfeld didn’t die soon enough, IMO).

On topic: cooking shows, especially ones that have an incredibly irritating “knife” sound at the commercial break, and the ones that feature a bleach-haired, insufferable douchecanoe. Also, every iteration of procedural crime drama, every “police are AWESOME!!!1111” show, every hospital drama, every firehouse drama, all prime time cartoons, “reality” shows, fake ghost shows, bullshit “history” and “science” shows containing nothing more than fiction and woo, and anything else aired on broadcast TV that I’ve inadvertently omitted (except PBS, you invented Bob Ross, Yankee Workshop and MST3K, you’re cool). I’ll forgive the live sportsball broadcasts, as at least there are laws about the outcome of those matches being predetermined.

Reflecting upon it, I much prefer to watch movies.
