From the person who never tells us her plan to reduce inflation or fix health care or every other thing her and the republicans rally against. I guess her secret plans are acceptable.
Kevin McCarthy failed to get House speaker votes. In fact, Hakeem Jeffries received more than he did
Amash, Kinzinger, or Liz Cheney would all probably be compromises supported by enough Dems to win just by peeling off a few moderate Republicans (if such a thing exists).
Trump has already told Boebert to sit down and shut up.
only need 5 or six Rs to vote for Jeffries and he’s the new speaker.
so i took a moment to craft a letter to my idiot congresscritter, carlos gimenez. so in pointing out what a total clownshow R leadership has become, i urged him to vote for some actual leadership and vote Jeffries.
not gonna hold my breath, carlos is a florida magat from desantis’ “free state” and will ignore my petition, but it cheers me some to think that it could get under his skin that a voting constituent has his number.
fuck 'em. feed 'em to the fish.
“Shush?”
“Anything I can do to help?”
“Hmm. Short of dying, no, can’t think of a thing.”

They don’t need to vote for Jeffries - which would be political suicide for them. They just need to not vote. If they lower the threshold and Jeffries keeps outperforming McCarthy’s numbers, Jeffries would win.
Republican Twitter has started to speculate that McCarthy may strike a deal with Democrats to share power and influence - which, to them, giving up any influence at all is tantamount to treason. To be honest, isn’t that what a representative democracy is supposed to do? I think there used to be a word for that… bi-something…
Might be preferable to being perpetually held hostage by 20 Freedom Caucus lunatics.
6th vote ongoing and McCarthy already lost it with at least 7 votes for Donalds.
It’s been interesting to see the format for the live NYT vote tracker get multiple updates to help clarify and streamline the information design:
How would that work in practice though?
Does anyone trust McCarthy enough to take him at his word and nothing else?
There’s no McCarthy deal that doesn’t include McCarthy as Speaker. Since he’s not trustworthy, it’s unclear how that deal would work. That’s why the hold outs want just 1 person, less than the offered 5 to be able to force the Speaker out. They clearly intend to use it, at least as a persistent threat.
PS: Sixth round of votes already a bust, not even a quarter way through the roll call.
Statistically: Their existence is almost certain.
Empirically: Moderate Republicans will almost certainly say nothing when something should be said.
Dems can’t trust him. The only terms that could hold him to the deal would include that he has to get prior approval from Jeffries before taking any action and that violating the deal means immediate removal.
WaPo saying the 6th round will fail as well.
That makes me wonder if McCarthy has been voting for himself. He’s that dumb.
Yes, every time, and he’s being loudly applauded by other members for doing so, although the enthusiasm of the applause has been notably diminishing over the last few votes.
Every single time. But then, so have all the other nominees. I can’t blame them.
I think she’s just driving trollies them now.
This one is interesting too.
Of course, depending on how badly and why they want to leave, there’s an easy way for either 6 or 11 GOP to guarantee this ends after a vote it tallied.
