One of the best ideas I’ve heard lately was “The City of New York should rename 5th Avenue ‘Barack Obama Avenue’ so Trump tower has to use that address forever.”

I´m all for it. Can there be a petition for it? Because that would give the OB an aneurism.

The sign in the first picture is using the correct typeface.

That does not look like a common street-sign font.

That sign looks like Interstate. Do they use that in local street signs? Either way, it looks better than the other one.

I do love it when a discussion veers off in to typography.

Now THAT’s Presidential.

Yes, I get it. But covering up street signs? There is a safety risk in doing that.

They do this all the time in Philadelphia. No problems noted.

Eventually to the rich and powerful having a street named after someone you have had killed will a not-so-secret honor.

They will just flip it, reverse the scoreboard, and roll on.

I remember when Congress decided to rename National Airport to Reagan National. Republicans wanted to venerate him, and in the process, insisted that the WMATA spend millions of dollars to reprint all of the maps and signs in the DC Metro, and pissed off a good many locals who resent outsiders imposing their wills on them and not really considering or dealing with the practical consequences.

I get the idea that such a move would tweak the fuck out of Trump, but he’ll frankly probably be dead before it comes to pass. And while they could probably rename the section of 5th Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets easily enough, they’ll never rename the entire street, which would be what would be required in order to force the Trumps to start using the street name.

Why not? They have already renamed the building.

Funny I support much more disruptive forms of protest but somehow the orderly part of my brain cringes at messing with street signs. Perhaps flashbacks of long Saturday nights at Burning Man.

Well I got hit by a car while cycling. I had to call the police and ambulance myself. I looked around for street names but there were no signs at all. A woman came out of a house to tell me the location.

How can you say there are no problems? Have you researched the issue yourself?

Clearly, the answer to this is ‘yes’. Perhaps not to the degree you would find acceptable, but I strongly suspect the NO amount of research would be acceptable to you since it’s obvious you reject the idea that annecdote!=data
