Kyle Rittenhouse found not guilty of killing two unarmed people

He got off because he’s a white man. That’s it. Plain and simple. Replaying all the specifics of the case doesn’t change that fact. He got off because he’s white.

We can all see what’s in front of our faces.

Sorry to hound you about this, but the line “Rittenhouse didn’t shoot first” is bullshit. That’s exculpatory language when there is no excuse for what he did at any stage of the entire situation. At no point did he have any right or reason to shoot anyone.

This really pisses me off. If he was panicked, then after he murdered the first person, he should have turned himself and his weapon into police. Instead, he marched past them and shot two more people when they tried to stop him. At no point did he make any right decisions. Not one.

We’ve been warning about this for years, but today the 2nd Amendment officially murdered the 1st Amendment, and got away with it.

I agree, and I think I said that a couple times. This is getting really off track and I’m sorry if I’m being defensive… but my original comment was

…which was brought up a lot in the trial. I only continued commenting because someone said that was BS… but it’s not. Someone else firing into the air set off everything that immediately followed.

I don’t think that justified murder, and I don’t think he would get the same treatment if he wasn’t white… but I strongly suspect that’s why the jury decided he was innocent, which is why I mentioned it. I’ll take a seat now, probably not the right time to speculate about why the jury decided he was innocent (which was my bad), but the trial was a total disaster on all fronts.

White men can now shoot at any of us with impunity, claim they felt afraid if anyone remotely tries to defend themselves or others, and get off. We’re going to see mass slaughter now in any protests against racism or other forms of oppression. Pro-choice rallies, gay rights marches, demonstrations against unjust laws… Every single protest that isn’t explicitly in support of white supremacy will be met with violence and no one will ever see justice if they are killed.

He did though.

That other weapons were fired into the air is not relevant; Rittenhouse took aim and shot AT other people, wounding and killing them.

That’s always been my reality as a POC in this country, sadly.

Absolutely, 100%. Someone on reddit accurately pointed out that the result of court proceedings is to determine, by the verdict of a jury, whether someone is guilty of a crime (or crimes).

Kyle Rittenhouse saying “I didn’t do anything wrong,” is very much a twisting of sentiments since, although he may have been acquitted of the charges against him… killing people is unequivocally wrong.

People tend to think of the civil rights era protests as calm, measured, and violence free, except for a few, but the truth is that the peaceful marches tended to be exception rather than the rule. The only reason the march between Selma and Montgomery was eventually peaceful was primarily because the initial attempt was met with extreme violence from the police (which famously put John Lewis in the hospital) that was broadcast on TV and the President had to step in to ensure a peaceful march.

I’m afraid we’re going to see a new wave of violence that will make the CR era protests seem like a bunch of church picnics.

Well this is going to get the fascists to come out and menace people because essentially they’ll just say they were defending themselves after they shoot someone who they don’t like (usually someone not white or at least not a fascist). So for all the folks here who are in vulnerable communities stay safe out there. :frowning:

The fact that it was actually argued (I can’t find the source at the moment but it related to pre trial testimony from experts in self defense law) that if you have a gun it is potentially a weapon for both people therefore you are entitled to use deadly force to defend yourself is just mind boggilingly crazy to me. If you aren’t armed you can’t use deadly force but if you are… So as long as you have a gun feel free to shoot anyone :man_facepalming: What a screwed up system.

That might well be the most sage advice of this totally fucked up day. Thank you very much.

I mean, this nation doesn’t exactly have a great track record of seeing the obvious when it comes to lynchings.

So, now will the Feds take a swing at him? He has already admitted to illegally obtaining a weapon by using a ''friend" as a straw purchaser. It would seem to be a slam dunk to get both of them in a Federal Court even though they would never get the punishments they really deserve.

I think you are correct.

Just heard some celebratory gunfire and war whoops in the distance.
