Perhaps all this ugliness (starting in 2015) is just the last veils, the last of the veneer and pretense that any part of our so-called republic is in any way interested in, oh, fighting nazis and doing things like getting vaccinated for the collective good.

I want to believe that there is hope for lawsuits or federal hate crime indictments, but… we’ve been down that road before.

They’ve never not had them. Whether you are talking about today, or back in Greensboro, in 1979, or Cleveland in 1917, the state sanctioned murder of left wing protesters is an American tradition.
It was at least close enough that it took a half million dollars, multiple angles of video coverage, a biased judge, and three days of jury deliberations to squeak this turd of a verdict.
Victim civil lawsuits have a good chance of succeeding. He will likely end up spending a million dollars of someone’s money by the time this is through.
He will live with some form of PTSD and live with having taken a life.
Anyone who is inspired to walk in his footsteps is a darned fool. But there are a lot of fools.

He took two lives and nearly ended a third, and he still maintains that he didn’t do anything wrong. The tears he shed in court were not for his victims or their families, they were for himself.
