Ike Perlmutter is an asshole. IIRC, he was pretty much cut out of the chain of command in regards to the MCU in favor of Kevin Feige specifically because he is right wing asshole. And that group has pretty much forfeited their humanity to Mammon.

Hey hey—I was never against Hawkeye as a standalone street-level hero who does action spy stuff. I just always thought it was silly to put a guy who is really good at archery on the same team as a bunch of people so overpowered they can drop-kick buildings or bend reality itself. Even he seemed to realize he was out of his league in that setting.
I will admit he still grew on me over time though.

Again, Hawkeye was a spy (or whatever his official designation with SHIELD was) long before Thor & Co. showed up and flipped the whole game.
Hard to see a guy like that ‘retiring early’ just because he’s clearly outmatched; hell, because he’s a cis-het White dude who was used to being a badass, I’d say that makes it totally unfathomable to him.
All that aside, I am looking forward to the new series.
I’ve quite enjoyed the MCU shows, aside from What If?
