If he pardons himself, that’s yet another reason to pack SCOTUS. Not just to nail 45 to the wall, but to ensure that the whole concept of self-pardon becomes settled law.

Then I chose the words incorrectly to express the thought. There is no way we can prevent him from trying. We can yell and scream before and after the fact, but there is nothing preventing Trump from attempting to pardon himself, and he likely IS going to try.

This is a different case than saying, let’s let a criminal murder someone so we can test the courts. Absolutely not, we should not do this.

But in Trump’s (or, rather, the POTUS) case, there is nothing stopping that person from doing that action of pardoning himself. And good luck getting Congress or the states to act on this before it actually happens. They cannot even pass a larger stimulus check for unemployed and uninsured people, let alone engage in complex statecraft.

It is amazing what so-called constitutionalists think the first amendment covers.

Yah think?

  • Multiple European security officials told Insider that President Donald Trump appeared to have tacit support among US federal agencies responsible for securing the Capitol complex in Wednesday’s coup attempt.
  • Insider is reporting this information because it illustrates the serious repercussions of Wednesday’s events: Even if they are mistaken, some among America’s international military allies are now willing to give credence to the idea that Trump deliberately tried to violently overturn an election and had help from some federal law-enforcement agents.
  • β€œWe train alongside the US federal law enforcement to handle these very matters, and it’s obvious that large parts of any successful plan were just ignored,” one source told us.

And if they do, what do we think Pence will do with his 48 hours in office?

It’s just the latest iteration of spectatorship…

There wasn’t already a full scale manhunt? But yeah - that’ll have tracking in it.

Ugh, so the shitshow gets shittier.

And to think that LEOs could’ve just scooped these crumb bums up while they were inside the building. And that they haven’t done so yet (at least not many of them) while they’re still in DC!

It doesn’t add up. Ever since the beginning when they successfully stormed in, the pushback has seemed throttled, well beyond personal LEO racism or sympathy with the mob’s claims.

Karlie who many including probably herself would consider being part of the β€œhollywood elite” trying to convince her sister in law that is the election was 100% done and over with got the same response this guy’s stove did when he made fries

I think what this woman is talking about, though, is not supporting children to be thoughtful citizens, though, or helping them to become who they want to be, or some general thing like that. She’s talking about indoctrinating children into right wing philosophies to stop them from going down the β€œwrong” road (not being racist shitbags). That’s absolutely why she invoked Hitler, because that is precisely what he was trying to do and succeeded to a large degree during the 1930s.

Right? There is literally no reason to attribute common knowledge that is so common that a phrase like β€œhand that rocks the cradle” has meaning without context to Hitler unless what you are really saying is that you agree with Hitler’s reason for wanting to control the nation’s children and that you would like to control this nation’s children for similar ends.

To complicity among some Trumpist upper level security folks? I can’t even say that without triggering my conspiracy theorist repulsion reflex, but that is where we are, I guess.

Right! β€œControl”! That’s the key word. They want to β€œcontrol” children. Not raise them. Control them. This is the core of much of white supremacist philosophy, control from the top down, especially of children.

Yes. And discussion of that possibility is getting really loud really quick today, isn’t it.

Oh yes, absolutely. I was trying (failing?) to sarcastically address just that point. The full context of the tweet being framed as a response to β€œnit-pickers” who would try to take the comments out of context and say β€œWell, if you think about it, there’s nothing wrong with the message though, right?” as if she had no other way to deliver that same message without the baggage of fascism and genocide.

I generally like Nance’s analysis- but this won’t happen if Trump is in prison.

After Capitol breach, Philly terrorism expert warns of coming β€˜paramilitary’ insurgency β€” led by Trump

β€œFor the next four years,” Nance surmised, β€œ[Trump] is going to lead a political insurgency that will have a paramilitary insurgent element.”
