I feel particularly bad for the children of these people. They’ve gone through life with their parents removing anything that made them uncomfortable or feel confusion, anything about sexuality or sex, anything about abuse or rape.
How many of these kids are victims of sexual predators because their parents sheltered them so much they have no idea of what is appropriate, the importance of consent, or self-advocating? Or the vocabulary to even express what has been done to them?
How many of these kids have tried or will try to hurt themselves because they have absolutely no refuge or context for understanding their own sexuality?
How many will end up pregnant because of the complete lack of any sex education?
How many will crash and burn because they have never been taught or had an opportunity to deal with discomfort or confusion? Adulthood is going to be rough.
Finally, if swaddling their kids to the point of emotionally crippling them is so important to these parents, why are the kids in public school at all?
Me either. My partner says “oh, we’ll be fine. It’s not a huge one or predicted to get as low.” I be like “yeah. If there is any bottled water left at the store, I’m buying some more for us.” It may be irrational, but last time was bad and the GOP death cult here in Texas has done exactly nothing to weatherize the grid.
