I’m not upset about his request for a public defender. I’m upset that he thinks he can’t afford his own representation. He’s a retired Lt. Col from the Air Force, and can obviously afford all the tacticool money can buy. Why does he need a public defender?

The new House Sergeant-at-Arms installed metal detectors at the Capitol’s House chamber entrance today. Reports are saying that gun-toting lawmakers are pushing past them, walking around them, and refusing to permit their bags to be searched despite policy prohibiting firearms in the chamber.

Threats against all 50 state capitols are necessitating states retain their National Guard contingents. DC, unable to call in enough Guard from the states, and with a Commander in Chief unwilling to invoke the district’s own, is struggling to find enough manpower to defend the inauguration.
