Thank you for the details, that is awesome (while the reality sucks).
My point, more generally, is, why are they playing by Mitchβs rules? JUST IGNORE HIM. Set the new rules, populate the committee chairs and move on. Fuck him and his power plays. Itβs what he would do (and did) if the roles were reversed.
this! very much this. and he reflects the evil organization which he leads.
trump was not an aberration but was, instead, the logical conclusion of the modern republican party. the only difference between trump and your typical republican politician is that trump keeps shouting the quiet parts.
i believe you need enough votes to pass a filibuster to pass the organizing principles. i think nobody has filibustered so itβs just a threat at this point. but, given the zodiac killer ( shoot, sorry. ) ted cruz, you can almost guarantee someone would.
the rules the dems are proposing are the same as the ones there were the last time there was a 50/50 split. but precedent only matters - apparently - if youβre a republican using seances to invoke the holy ghosts of the founding fathers.
Yeah, those are all rules that do not have the weight of law behind them. Chuck could say, βMitch, you had your turn at the podium and thatβs over. Sit down and shut up or I will have you removed. Now, letβs get some shit done. Sit down, Cruz, before the FBI hauls you away. I have them on speed dial. β
Unfortunately, the fallout from the Orange Asshat and his enablers is still ongoing, and likely will be for some time; so I updated the title to be more current, and to rid us of that odious beingβs accused name.
It is difficult to imagine a scenario in which Trump gets a new coalition of backers as big and well-financed as the one that put them in power in 2016 considering how many fortunes and careers have been destroyed through association with him over the last four years.
Worse yet, heβs calm, well-spoken, and at times even charming and likable. In other words, the fucking worst kind of evil person.
Trump was just a bad lower tier comic book evil villain. All talk and bluster but completely incompetent and self-sabotaging. McConnell is actually competent and effective in his villainy.
