My point, more generally, is, why are they playing by Mitch’s rules? JUST IGNORE HIM. Set the new rules, populate the committee chairs and move on. Fuck him and his power plays. It’s what he would do (and did) if the roles were reversed.

trump was not an aberration but was, instead, the logical conclusion of the modern republican party. the only difference between trump and your typical republican politician is that trump keeps shouting the quiet parts.

i believe you need enough votes to pass a filibuster to pass the organizing principles. i think nobody has filibustered so it’s just a threat at this point. but, given the zodiac killer ( shoot, sorry. ) ted cruz, you can almost guarantee someone would.
the rules the dems are proposing are the same as the ones there were the last time there was a 50/50 split. but precedent only matters - apparently - if you’re a republican using seances to invoke the holy ghosts of the founding fathers.
i have to give schumer credit for sounding both more combative and more progressive over the past two or three months. he may yet surprise us.

It is difficult to imagine a scenario in which Trump gets a new coalition of backers as big and well-financed as the one that put them in power in 2016 considering how many fortunes and careers have been destroyed through association with him over the last four years.
Worse yet, he’s calm, well-spoken, and at times even charming and likable. In other words, the fucking worst kind of evil person.
Trump was just a bad lower tier comic book evil villain. All talk and bluster but completely incompetent and self-sabotaging. McConnell is actually competent and effective in his villainy.
