I remember, when I lived in Austin, there was a last-minute push to keep Mueller Airport open. The state gov’t. & general aviation terminals on the other side of Bergstrom were too far. One legislator (not from Austin) suggested changing the City of Austin into a nonautonomous capital district, like D.C. (ETA: Whereby the Legislature could force Mueller to remain open, whether Austin wanted to or not.)
(Further from the topic, I wondered: if they wanted an airport so close to downtown, how would they feel about converting Camp Mabry into a small airport? [For those unfamiliar, Camp Mabry is the TX Nat’l Guard headquarters and borders on some pretty tony neighborhoods. I figured if anyone in Austin could get the Leg. to knock it off, it was the people living over there. But my idea never went further than me suggesting it on 88.7’s Talk Time.])

An argument for solar panels if ever there was one. It is difficult to pull off, but as long as TPTB refuse to take white supremacist terrorism seriously, they get a whole bunch of trial runs. Predator and prey scenario, they can fail many times. They only need to win once.

I’m apartment living. I got a decent portable solar charger for small battery powered electronics. A camp stove. Some emergency food- and a way to stay warmer. No easy way to replace the AC - I guess the car in a pinch.
And - ready for a little camping!

The portable solar charger is an excellent way to keep a cell phone charged, and maybe a flashlight in a pinch. Doesn’t have to be multi-megawatt to be very useful!

Yeah I doubt there had ever been a mass shooter who would have been dissuaded by the prospect that they might pay for their crimes with their life. Most of them accept their own deaths as a given; it may even be the primary goal.
If you really want to punish a mass murderer you don’t let them go down in a blaze of glory, you make them spent decades contemplating their actions in a room with concrete walls.
