Can this be used to get rid of any of the civil war “monuments”?
Quick, someone tell him it’s Belgian, not American and see if they reverse again.
Jordan Klepper expressed concern on Sunday about the number of Donald Trump’s supporters he has met during his field pieces for “The Daily Show” who are “unable to let go of the idea” that the former president isn’t still in power.
It’s “a thing that really scares me,” Klepper told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki ahead of his weeklong stint guest-hosting the Comedy Central program.
Klepper said those folks in the MAGA movement don’t just falsely believe Trump won the 2020 election, but actually think “he still has power” and is “still making decisions.”
“I think that goes to how much we want to believe these conspiracies are true to the point that we can’t even relinquish the idea that Donald Trump doesn’t pull the strings anymore,” he explained.
GOP Party officials in the state want Louisiana lawmakers to prohibit the study of racism at colleges and universities, claiming the “inglorious aspects” of American history are too divisive, according to NOLA.com, which cites a GOP resolution on the matter.
The state GOP leadership also wants to nix diversity, equity, and inclusion departments at colleges and universities, claiming without evidence that such agencies stir political tensions on campuses and have overgenerous budgets, NOLA.com reported. A third of Louisiana residents are Black, according to the US Census Bureau.
The GOP message to teachers and students:
Will they be giving back the many billions they’re receiving from the Infrastructure Act? Most of which is from the USDOT and has diverse contracting requirements?
Two ways to combat this thinking might come from strategies against toxic fandom and promoting self-interest over hero worship/extreme partisanship. After watching some Klepper coverage and The Swarm, I really had no idea how deeply emotionally invested some people can get - cult of personality, indeed. It really can turn into a different kind of abusive relationship.
This contains some great advice from Beau (around the 4:40 mark) to challenge MAGAts and Republicans who might be convinced to shift focus to their own interests:
Asking folks to consider whether or not what pols are saying and doing is to help them or hurt someone else might be the wake up call some of them really need. The starter question, “How does this affect you?” might reveal if they are really on board with the fascism.
“PLEASE Dominion — Do not settle with Fox! You’re about to prove something very big,” she tweeted Sunday.
i mean, good? it means they don’t need to vote in the next election, complain about biden, or worry about the direction of the country… because it’s their guy who’s already responsible for everything?
i know that people trapped in that world don’t act consistently, but if ■■■■■ is really in charge then they should just relax already
it sucks when we have to rely on for profit businesses to fight each other.
apparently, dominion wants an apology, an onscreen retraction, and presumably a restriction from fox doing it again. and fox is attempting to see how much money they can shovel dominion’s way to get them to compromise their principles
i definitely hope they don’t cave, but murdoch and fox have gobs of cash
eta:
this is how i picture the dominion lawyers
In the past, Dominion had stated that they were in it to bring out the truth, not to just make a buck. But with the court compelling Rupert Murdoch to testify, Fox might be throwing megayacht- and private-island-money at the settlement to avoid that. I wouldn’t be surprised if they offer more than what Dominion is asking for in the judgement in order to keep Rupe off the stand.
I hope that’s the truth.
And hopefully, Dominion stands by wanting this to go to trial… anything else will be a disservice to democracy.
Despite Fox having a lot of money, I think this is why it will proceed to court. Dominion is teaching them there’s no amount of money that will undo some forms of harm.
No wonder the Louisiana Republicans have problems with certain movies that show Nazis and enslavers as victims of righteous vengeance. To them, those movies are horror movies.

Dominion could always change their name. After all, who really cares who owns Diebold these days?
Under Matt Schaefer’s bill (HB20), the state will empower vigilante militias, including Proud Boys and Patriot Front to set up check points in ANY county, to stop brown people and ask them for immigration status.
From upthread…
(ETA)
P.S.
2023-04-13 House Left pending in committee
Hopefully it stays there. More on the bill:
“We are in imminent danger as a state,” Schaefer said in laying out the bill. “There’s simply not enough law enforcement to go after the poison that is being pumped in.”
One could, perhaps, read “poison” as Fentanyl, but it’s not how I read it.
I’m familiar with Refugee Services of Texas and their work, in that place, seems like an increasingly thankless task. I notice on their “Advocacy” page that they don’t even bother suggesting making contact with anyone in the state gov’t. Disclaimer: I’ve made monetary contributions to the group.
Also: Something about the Number 20 in the TX Leg, it would seem…
P.P.S.
The article about this upthread was from the Texas Observer which, I’m happy to hear, got a reprieve & did not shut down
Abbot better keep his pardon pen moist, if that sucker passes there’s going to be a bumper crop of “I thought he was reaching for a gun and I feared for my life” shootings.
ETA that since Texas is a no-permit CC state, s fair few of the people stopped may in fact be armed.Texas will have to field spy drones equipped with Pantone swatches in order to be sure who the good guys are.
Perhaps you joke but it would not be the first time there was a rash of lynchings or similar in texas. The reality is that he is setting the tone or standard so that smaller law and justice bodies can follow suit… and I have no doubt that some of them will.
