No room for the Brits? Or are they worried that the UK gov would yank the citizenship of anyone who acquired a dual Russian citizenship? (As if!)

But we really need to worry about those drag story hours! Really!

They should include a Noah’s Ark biblical park.

Hm. A number of countries have laws against dealing with places that use child labor.

Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan says the Liberal government is planning legislation to make Canadian companies ensure that they are not using slave labour or exploiting child workers overseas.

One day that’s going to pop up like Sideshow Bob’s rakes.

 I wish we had campaign ads/reports with a simple, three-column spreadsheet for pols. The title could be Proposed or Passed Laws. The column headings should be Law Name/Number, Helps People, and Hurts People. A format with checkmarks, totals at the bottom, and a list of candidates responsible in a header at the top should make the GOP agenda clear to any voters who are still confused.

The law allows any medical provider β€” including doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, pharmacists, mental health professionals, lab technicians, nursing home workers, and hospital administrators β€” as well as insurance companies and payment entities, the right to deny care on the basis of any conscientious objection. This care can include refusing to conduct research and recordkeeping or denying medical tests, diagnoses, referrals, medications, and therapy, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) notes.

There are not enough rage gifs in existence for this shit. No way can medical professionals function in this environment! I order an HIV test, or STD test and the lab refuses due to β€œmorals,” or the insurance refuses due to β€œbeliefs.” This is way broader than β€œYou really need a different doc.” This is putting lives in the hands of the most bigoted mind in the chain.

There’s a lot not included in the article. It’s an anniversary reminder. They gave her narcan for no discernible reason. They sent one of the health care providers out of the country to avoid testifying. DC tried to pass a law allowing this kind of discrimination.

β€œ Ambulance workers jeered at and refused to treat Tyra Hunter , a transgender woman seriously injured in a car accident outside Washington, DC who later died from her wounds. The same kind of hate-fueled medical negligence killed Robert Eads, a transgender man with ovarian cancer whom 20 separate doctors wouldn’t treat; one said the diagnosis should make Eads β€œdeal with the fact that he is not a real man.””

This has all happened before.

The problem with vertical farming is that it’s still less efficient than the most basic subsistence farming techniques. You have to make buildings which can handle a steady supply of water, power for lights and heating/cooling. Also, those buildings will not be reusable for non-farming activities since they’re likely to suffer major degradation due to constant flow of water into the plant beds on each floor. Even green houses out perform vertical farms in this respect vs land usage even in an urban setting. This stuff is just a dead end fantasy that techbros can’t let go of (much like flying cars).

How about using existing buildings, that are currently just sitting empty?

Follow-up from the Oregon Legislature walkout drama:

OR Senate Republicans have been on walkout for a week. Three have 9 unexcused absences (at 10 they become ineligible for re-election). Senate Dems are pausing sessions to allow for negotiations, but have made it clear that the core of their legislative agenda is not on the table. That means proposed legislation for gun control and guarantees for abortion rights and gender-affirming care.

They’re not up to the purpose. Water vapor would reek havoc on them, essentially they’d ruin the building and would require either full renovation or demolition and replacement after the farm’s owners leave (assuming they’d lease the building and not own it). Plus, office buildings and the like are horrible when it comes to climate control so you’re wasting more power on just trying to keep the farm plots in optimal conditions whereas a plot outside is more efficient since the crops grown are grown at times where climate isn’t as much of a problem (excluding droughts). The only urban farming that I’ve seen that’s been profitable and viable has been urban greenhouses whether they’re on top of buildings or at ground level. And they don’t grow soy, wheat, and other bulk crops as they focus on herbs, leafy vegetables, and boutique plant stock that confers a high price vs the cost of growing.
