Can you imagine Empty Greenโs response to that? Oh, manโฆ
Iโm imagining it right now.
Such bliss.
From the NY Times:
Representative Jim Banks of Indiana is among those who says he wonโt vote for Emmer on the floor. โI canโt go along with putting one of the most moderate members of the entire Republican conference in the speakerโs chair,โ Banks said. โThat betrays the conservative values that I came here to fight for. . . . I hope we can find a different choice,โ Banks said, adding: โTom Emmerโs not a conservative.โ
Tom Emmer is anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ rights, has called climate science โAl Goreโs climate porn,โ and once posted a video to social media of himself shooting a machine gun with the hashtag FIREPELOSI. And heโs a moderate? The GOP is so totally fucked up.
See, he only wants to put half the kittens in the blender.
I meanโฆthat machine gun FIREPELOSI thingโฆand some people think Democrats might cross the aisle to support this guy? Why would they?
Banks was one of 126 Republican members of the House of Representatives to sign an amicus brief in support of a lawsuit filed at the United States Supreme Courtcontesting the results of the 2020 presidential election
I suspect this is what he means by โconservative valuesโ
Sadly, yes, he is. And yes it is. What does it take to make the cut for not-moderate is the question I would love answered.
Oh I know thatโs what he means. Itโs just such a bizarre place our politics are in right now that people like Emmer, Steve Scalise, and Liz Cheney are considerate โmoderatesโ. They are not, not by any reasonable definition of that word.
ETA:
Heโs really not. Just because someone is not as far to the right as Hitler doesnโt make them a moderate.
Thatโs the important qualifier. Sort of like โdumbest Nobel laureateโ or โmost ethical MAGAt.โ Considering the field, it would take precious little to make this cut.
(NY Times reprint)
The speaker saga has exposed the dynamics that have made the House GOP nearly impossible to govern. There are too many conflicting ideologies, too many unyielding personalities and too much bad blood for the party to unite behind any one person.
โThereโs only one person that can do it all the way. You know who that is? Jesus Christ,โ former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner and de facto party leader, said Monday in New Hampshire. โIf Jesus came down and said, โI want to be speaker,โ he would do it. Other than that, I havenโt seen anybody that can guarantee it.โ
Something tells me that they donโt like the brown, jewish asexual refugee guy.
Itโs almost adorable that the Republicans imagine themselves being on the side of the socialist rabble-rouser instead of the authoritarian government. These people would have claimed Pontius Pilate had gone soft for even considering the question of whether Jesus really ought to be crucified.
Hanson invited the group to the event to provide security, and afterward she refused to apologize. โIโm not going to denounce anybody their right to be whatever it is that they want to be, whether I agree with what they do in their personal life or not,โ Hanson said at the time. โWe donโt discriminate in this community against anyone.โ
Great! So she is pro-LGBTQ+, right? Huh, (reads fine print) โThis offer only valid to white supremacists, Nazis and other racists goons.โ Hmmm, OK, just so we understand properly.
Oh dear god, noโฆ

There are too many conflicting ideologies
say what nyt? tell me specifically what ideologies you mean.
this is a fight over power, not belief.

Lemme guess. He wants to make โmy johnsonโ jokes?
