An βArmy of God,β they say?
Letβs see what the Bible has to say about how people of faith should treat immigrants:
βI am a stranger and an alien residing among you; give me property among you for a burying place, so that I may bury my dead out of my sight.β
Genesis 23:4You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 10:19The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 19:34βCursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.β Then all the people shall say, βAmen!β
Deuteronomy 27:19When they were few in number, of little account, and strangers in the land, wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, βDo not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.β
1 Chronicles 16:19-22I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the unrighteous, and made them drop their prey from their teeth.
Job 29:15-17The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
Psalm146:9For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever.
Jeremiah 7:5-7You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens who reside among you and have begotten children among you. They shall be to you as citizens of Israel; with you they shall be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
Ezekiel 47:22Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
Zechariah 7:9-10You have heard that it was said, βyou shall love your neighbor and hate your enemyβ. But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you.
Matthew 5:43-44I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
Matthew 25:35Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren you did it to me.
Matthew 25:40You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Luke 10:27Then Peter began to speak to them: βI truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
Acts 10:34Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
Romans 12:13Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8Love does no wrong to a neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Romans 13:10In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.
Colossians 3:11Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.
Hebrews 13:1-3Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the friends, even though they are strangers to you; they have testified to your love before the church. You do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God; for they began their journey for the sake of Christ, accepting no support from non-believers. Therefore we ought to support such people, so that they may become co-workers with the truth.
3 John 1:5And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, βSee the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them.β
Revelation 21:3
Thatβs likely what all the sabre ratting down in TX is about; they need a big distraction from this fuckery.
Most of those immigrants are Christian.
Why do they hate Christians?
I get the impression that American Evangelicals have revoked the probationary βChristianβ status for Catholics.
Itβs a shame that Catholics havenβt yet realized that.
FWIW more American Catholics identify as Democrats than as Republicans even though Republicans are the ones who pretend to care about Bible stuff. Mostly because of all the anti-immigrant crap.
i know evangelicals prefer the og testament β vengeful god, lots of sin, very little forgiveness; maybe catholics are more on the nouveau side?
I think it has a lot to do with how long Catholics have been in the U.S. compared to Protestants, and how they have most frequently been treated when they arrived here. Waves of Irish immigrants, Italian immigrants and Latinx immigrants havenβt exactly been welcomed with open arms by the far right.
According to Pew (ha!) research 56% of American Evangelical Protestants identify as Republicans compared to just 37% of American Catholics.
Oh no. We do not need these people at the border or driving thru Houston and San Antonio. It is probably too much to hope they arenβt packing their guns.
couldnβt decide whether to put this in Responsible Gun Ownership thread or here. but being a republican state senator, this is the proper thread, IMO:
whoa. these fuckers really do want to take us all back to the 19th century (in every way imaginable).
it was here that Abbott made clear his inheritance of the Southern legacy of nullification and secession.
That third Calhoun legacy is lurking in the back.
Holy crap!
That is one scary looking dude.
he seems niceβ¦

nice and angry!
I grew up in Charleston, I definitely knew some Calhouns, I think I played soccer with one whoβd have been a great great grandchild when I was in my early teens. Very probably against more than few from the richer schools.
Canβt say I liked em.
Yikes, the original neckbeard!
