On Thursday, Blasek was pulled aside by his counselor and vice principal. He was told he needed to remove the flag from the back of the truck because it was a violation of school rules.

Blasek said school officials told him it could lead to other students flying flags β€œthat are seen as offensive.”

Black clarified in an email to WCPO that β€œNo high school staff member or administrators stated or insinuated that the US Flag was offensive, nor has there ever been a complaint received about the US Flag.”

β€œThe US Flag is displayed in the front of our school and in every classroom. We begin each day with the Pledge of Allegiance. Clearly, we do not consider the US Flag offensive. Friday morning, after consulting with other administrators, we determined that we would allow the US Flag to be displayed, and would prohibit other flags if they were determined to be offensive,” Black said.

Gosh, whatever could they be referring to?

Increasingly irrelevant Florida gov Deathsantis blames Oregon for failing to extradite accused rapist from Florida. Turns out - and this will shock you - he lied in order to make it a media stunt. Florida never told Oregon about it.

Many Republicans plan to skip House GOP retreat as they grumble about location and spending time with one another

After all, who would want to spend time with a bunch of horrible people?

They’re probably worried Johnson will spend most of his time preaching to everyone else.

They are probably more scared of the snakes that Johnson will be introducing them to …

I don’t know… I really think we need to not conflate ALL weird religious groups under the fascist umbrella. Johnson doesn’t have a weird, idiosyncratic practice that’s weird and easy to mock… he’s just a fascist, trying to take over the country and using his religious views to justify it. As far as I know, these weird little snake-handling churches in Appalachia never did that. They just minded their own business and got on with their lives otherwise, living in a deep well of poverty.

Grew up around this, and I think that’s about right. Seeking something to make them feel better about their lives, and some felt this was it.

Incidents of anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes in schools have risen sharply in the U.S. in recent years, more than quadrupling in K–12 schools in states where Republican lawmakers have enacted legislation targeting the community.

The alarming finding comes from an analysis of FBI data published in the Washington Post this week. The paper found that the nationwide average number of reported anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes in schools, including those on college campuses, rose from 108 between 2015–2019 to 232 between 2021–2022, more than doubling. In states that have enacted anti-LGBTQ+ laws, the average tripled.

Even more troublingly, in the 28 states where Republicans have passed laws restricting access to gender-affirming care for minors, bans on trans people accessing bathrooms and participating in sports, and β€œDon’t Say Gay” laws, reported incidents of anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes on K–12 campuses more than quadrupled.
